Our Water & Environment business provides a focus for advising our clients on sustainability issues including renewable energy, low carbon economies, impacts of climate change and waste and resource management. Due to an increase in workload, we are seeking Land Contamination Environmental Consultants / Senior Environmental Consultants to work from our Belfast or Dublin office.
About the opportunity:
You will be joining the Water & Environment team, a diverse group including engineers, geologists, ecologists, and environmental scientists. We help our clients to understand their environmental impacts and opportunities, from consenting on major projects and programmes, through remediating some of the most challenging sites in Europe, to developing and driving sustainability policies and strategies for global brands.
You will work on a range of multidisciplinary projects, providing input either as part of a team or working autonomously on particular projects. With the supervision of a Project Manager, you will undertake and lead project work involving the safe design, implementation and management of geo-environmental investigation, remediation and design.
Responsibilities of the role will include:
Coordinating, leading, designing and supporting field projects such as groundwater sampling, drilling, etc. including site attendance for such works
Overseeing soil and groundwater remediation works, e.g., excavation, in-situ treatment, etc.
Conducting or overseeing basic operation and maintenance of remediation treatment units
Pro-actively ensuring Health & Safety organization is a core component of all stages of works (deign, planning, implementation, review)
Capability to support technical and digital aspects such as field electronic data capture, data management using databases, managing field equipment (transducers, probes, etc.).
Contributing to deliverables by evaluating data and writing text for groundwater monitoring technical memorandums & site investigation reports
Supporting technical data interpretation & evaluations including soil and groundwater risk assessments, data visualisation, statistical analyses, etc.
Undertaking Phase 1 and Phase 2 land contamination assessments
Completing relevant chapters (Soils & Geology, Hydrogeology) of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) for major infrastructure projects
Maintaining knowledge and understanding of UK and European regulatory guidance, risk assessment methodologies, best practices, contaminated land issues, etc.
Assisting Project Manager with budget control on all projects
Assisting with client and internal audits, reviews
Co-ordinating in-house and external specialists and contractors
Forming and nurturing client relationships
The successful candidate must have initiative, energy, enthusiasm, commitment and be flexible in work approach. Travel to project sites and meetings would be required, though the primary work location will be Belfast or Dublin.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Candidate should have good people skills, be driven, and also work well in a team environment. A balance of technical and field skills is sought to flexibly contribute to projects. In addition, the following are key attributes:
Educational background in a science, geosciences, environmental or engineering related discipline
Proven project-related experience in the contaminated land field
Excellent technical and numerical skills with an emphasis on quality control, logical thinking and reporting
Willingness to develop technical skills and to take on new challenges both within Ireland, the UK and internationally
Demonstrable experience in Health and Safety planning and implementation, including working knowledge of UK / Ireland H&S regulations
Understand planning and environmental regime in UK, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland
Capable of supporting field work including site investigation oversight and use of groundwater monitoring & sampling equipment
Human health and groundwater risk assessment and risk-based decision making
UK or European citizen with valid UK work permit
Ability and interest to periodically travel for meetings and to support work at project sites (approximately 25%, but can periodically be more)
Willingness to commit to safely working in a team environment
Greater levels of experience / skill will also be considered for Project Management / Technical / Business Development positions.
