Mission Statement

Jacobs provides field, range, testing, chemical, and biological laboratory support to the U.S. Army at the West DesertTest Center (WDTC) located at Dugway Proving Ground (DPG), UT. As a major test site for the U.S. Army Test andEvaluation Command, the WDTC is responsible for the test and evaluation of chemical and biological (CB) defensesystems, incendiary and smoke/obscuration munitions systems, and related operational concepts. In addition to theseresponsibilities, we also support non-CB testing at the WDTC for the DOD and other Federal agencies, includingenvironmental assessment/impact evaluation and munitions demilitarization

Our Dugway Operation was established in 2004 with the award of the Field, Range, Chamber, and Laboratory SupportServices (FRC&LSS) contract to Jacobs. This operation also includes our support provided to STC through a subcontractawarded in 2006 for Test Documentation and Management Support Services for the WDTC. Through the FRC&LSScontract, we manage an integrated team of contractors that includes Mellor Engineering with acomposite staff size of more than 170 personnel.

Job Description

Jacobs is looking for an Electronic Technician to join the Dugway Proving Ground team. Candidate must follow test plan, procedures and other guides to set up photo instrumentation. Candidate will plan, coordinate installation of optical equipment, and monitor circuitry for remote triggering of photonic imaging devices. Position will perform maintenance of standard recording; IR recording devices and fixed imaging systems.

Candidate must be able to set up, operate and service all types of photo test equipment and instrumentation Position will perform maintenance of standard recording; IR recording devices and fixed imaging systems. Knowledge of various types of photonic optical instrumentation cameras to measure and record scientific tests is needed; along with knowledge of rapid sequence film/video recording devices. A good working knowledge of math and at least five years’ experience in operating tracking telescopes, video systems, fixed cameras to obtain data measurements, and performing optical data reduction.

They will prepare test data sheets, field data, operating and film reports and other duties as assigned.

Typical Duties:

  • Perform such tasks as replacing components, wiring circuits, and repairing complex optical equipment.

  • Work typically requires a detailed understanding of the interrelationships of circuits.

  • Uses complex test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, semiconductor testers, curve tracers and oscilloscopes.

  • May provide technical guidance to lower level technicians.

  • Install electrical conduit systems, use electric conduit benders, read electrical wiring diagrams, install wiring to National Electrical Code Specifications.

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervisor or direction.


Education and Experience:

  • Specialized training and at least five (5) years of senior experience in the calibration, operations, maintenance, and repair of electronic test equipment/instrumentation on various control circuitry, including flow control and monitoring equipment, temperature, and monitoring control circuitry.

Required Skills:

  • Experience with the maintenance and operation of samplers such as MINICAMS and miniature infrared analyzers (MIRANS).

Required Clearance:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.

Essential Functions

Physical Requirements:

  • Medium- Exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

Work Environment:

  • Will involve year round inside or outside work depending on task.

  • An inside environment may be a cubicle (considerations: close quarters, low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting). Outside work may include various environmental conditions including hot and cold climates.

  • Needs to be able to work well with co-workers and all levels of management.

  • No hazards on job or unusual environmental conditions. Office is located on site in Government spaces at Dugway Proving Ground, UT.

Equipment and Machines:

  • Ability to operate office equipment such as a personal computer, printer, copy machine, telephone, fax machine and other equipment including desk supplies and other work related tools as required.


  • Regular hours will be between Monday-Thursday 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

  • Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary to meet deadlines.

  • Must exhibit flexibility of work hours to adjust to surge situations based on critical mission requirements.

Other Essential Functions:

  • Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management and co-workers.

  • Must have clear, concise and accurate communications skills in English, both verbal and written.

  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to employees or others.

  • Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner.

  • Independent personal transportation to office or work site is required.

  • Travel to and from customer’s locations and the test fields may be required to support projects.

  • This may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can possibly be made for POV, if necessary.

  • When operating any vehicle for work purposes, must wear seat belt and in addition, no cellular devices are to be used when vehicle is in motion.

  • This position will require a valid driver license to operate a variety of vehicles.
