About The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an Ecologist to join our Scottish ecology team. The successful individual will join a respected and ambitious company with excellent career prospects both locally and internationally. The role will include:

· Working with our current clients such as RWE, Low Carbon, Historic Railways Estate, Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland, Scottish Gas Networks, Highlands & Islands Airports, Network Rail, National Grid and a number of Local Authorities.

  • Using your experience in collecting and assessing data relating to protected species and habitats to inform Ecological Impact Assessment and Habitats Regulations Appraisal.

  • Working in multidisciplinary teams to assist in high quality collaborative delivery on some of Scotland’s largest and most complex development projects.

  • Developing leadership capabilities and confidence in managing delivery of terrestrial ecology inputs for a wide range of complex projects and frameworks.

  • Engagement with both internal and external clients, environmental regulators and other stakeholders.

  • A requirement to work throughout Scotland and occasionally the wider UK/Ireland including being away from home during the working week.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

· A degree in a relevant science or a closely related field.

  • At least one year of relevant industry experience in terrestrial or aquatic ecology including experience in surveys and technical reporting.

  • Working knowledge of relevant UK/Scottish legislation, planning policy and best practice guidance.

  • Membership of a professional body (or experience and a willingness to obtain membership).

  • Good ecological survey skills and a willingness to gain further experience.

  • Ability to write clear and concise reports.

  • Inquisitiveness and willingness to learn.

  • The ability to work well as part of a team.

  • A ‘hands on’ work ethic and good self-awareness.

  • Current and full driving licence

We are particularly interested to hear from ecologists with training and experience in habitat surveys, ornithology, bats or aquatic receptors (marine or freshwater).
