Your Impact:

Within our Water and Environment business our Carbon and Energy team advises clients on the challenges and opportunities regarding climate change and sustainability issues including: carbon accounting, policy and regulatory support; net zero carbon strategic roadmaps; carbon neutrality; decentralised, decarbonised generation and energy transition; and the circular economy.

Our wider energy and sustainability teams comprise in excess of 1000 staff based predominantly in the UK, but with significant global reach across our offices.

About the opportunity

Jacobs are looking for a highly motivated consultant, passionate about climate change issues and sustainability with a desire for a low carbon future to join its Carbon and Energy Consulting team. You will provide support to our large portfolio of public and private sector clients covering carbon footprinting; climate action plans and strategies; science based targets; net zero road maps; regulatory and policy support; renewable and low carbon energy generation.

In the role you will be responsible for delivering projects and workstreams, providing advice and innovative approaches relating to climate change and sustainability. Opportunities for project management, technical leadership, business case development, scoping commercial propositions and client relationship management.

Technical Requirements

An essential part of this role is working with a wider team on projects relating to carbon reporting, compliance and low carbon roadmaps. We are interested in an individual that can lead the following types of projects/workstreams:

  • Carbon appraisals;

  • Carbon management;

  • Corporate carbon footprint reporting & GHG Protocol;

  • Science-based targets;

  • Life cycle-assessments;

  • Renewable/low carbon technologies;

  • Carbon regulation and policy;

  • Circular economy.

Primary Role Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will need to undertake tasks such as:

  • Developing and updating carbon models and inventories following reporting protocols;

  • Managing the delivery of carbon reporting projects, including progress reporting to clients

  • Collection, analysis and interpretation of datasets;

  • Supporting organisations to develop carbon reduction and net zero carbon strategies;

  • Engaging with a range of stakeholders at all levels (internal networks, clients, regulators etc.);

  • Maintaining knowledge of energy/carbon policy developments, carbon accounting, methodology changes, energy markets and wider energy/sustainability issues;

  • Being accountable for key tasks and quality data outputs;

  • Technical analysis related to environmental metrics;

  • Assessing performance to target (energy and carbon metrics), and analysing and communicating the cause of any variances;

  • Analysing data, prepare visual outputs of results in an engaging and meaningful way for our clients.

Candidates should be able to apply an in-depth appreciation of the science, policies and technologies linked to climate change, including the scientific basis underpinning international agreements on carbon reduction targets.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • A degree in an environmental, mathematics, science or engineering discipline 2:1 or above;

  • A postgraduate qualification (or equivalent) is desirable;

  • Extensive experience in climate change profession;

  • Experience in delivering energy/carbon related projects;

  • Track record of developing carbon models and inventories to ensure that they are robust and flexible to provide the desired outcomes for the clients;

  • Strong data validation and analysis skills are essential;

  • A high level of competency in Excel, and have a basic understanding of data visualisation packages such as Power BI;

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of different strategies employed to tackle greenhouse gas emissions;

  • Understand the challenges and opportunities change presents to companies across strategic planning, operations, marketing, and accounting and finance;

  • Have the knowledge and technical ability to assess and advise on carbon management;

  • Strong communication skills, ability to engage with colleagues and clients and provide clear, evidence-based advice verbally and within written reports and presentations;

  • A good understanding across a range of sustainability issues and services.

  • Ensure compliance with quality standards in all tasks demonstrating good attention to detail and accuracy when undertaking tasks;

  • Demonstrated organisational skills.
