We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Ecologist to join our award-winning ecology team, which is at the forefront of solving the world’s most complex environmental challenges and opportunities.

As well as being part of one the UK’s largest most dynamic and respected ecology teams, you will work with some of the UKs most respected organisations and be contributing to some of the largest, complex projects in the UK.

We are particularly interested in hearing from people with demonstrable skills and experience encompassing some or all of the following:

  • Innovative scoping and execution of field surveys and data analysis

  • Survey planning and leadership

  • Technical specialism in the field of terrestrial ecology

  • Technical reporting and impact assessment in cognisance of national legislation and guidance

  • Effective stakeholder and regulator engagement

  • Infrastructure programmes and projects

  • Transport, energy, utilities and other environmentally sensitive schemes

About you:

The successful person will join a respected and ambitious company with excellent career prospects both locally and internationally. You will work as part of a diverse and highly skilled team of over 170 ecologists in the UK (600 globally) and work with hydrologists, geomorphologists, engineers, planner and project managers to provide support and advice to our clients. You will ensure ecology input is considered by project teams, work as a first point of contact and, with the support of the wider team, provide high quality technical advice.

The role will include:

  • Using your experience – in protected species survey, ecological clerk of works, Environmental Impact Assessment, Habitats Regulations Assessment. We are particularly keen to meet those with expertise in botany, ornithology and bats.

  • Working in multidisciplinary teams – quickly building rapport and trust to ensure that terrestrial ecology requirements are recognised, acknowledged and constraints acted upon.

  • Designing ecological monitoring programmes - develop survey programmes, lead and/or manage survey teams and be responsible for high quality data collection.

  • Using your experience in a taxonomic discipline - to provide expert advice to clients (internal and external).

  • Acting as a Health and Safety champion – contributing to the development and review of risk assessments and method statements.

  • A willingness to both learn from and mentor others – develop and share skills that build team and individual resilience. This will include engagement with our global communities of practice, externally facing communications (conferences, presentations, client meetings) and training events.

  • Travel across the UK and Ireland to lead site work – you will need a willingness to work in remote locations and, at times, stay away from home during the working week.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • A background in terrestrial ecology with previous industry experience

  • Outstanding written and verbal skills with good attention to detail

  • Membership of a relevant professional body (or experience to obtain membership)

  • Experienced in running surveys on medium-large scale projects
