Our Environment, Maritime and Resilience business provides afocus for advising our clients on sustainability issues including renewableenergy, low carbon economies, impacts of climate change and waste and resourcemanagement. Our environmental capabilities comprise of in excess of 1300staff based predominantly in the UK, but with reach into the Middle East andIndia.

To meet our growing UK business needs and future developmentaspirations we currently have an opportunity for an experienced Waste and EnvironmentalProfessional who has a background in environmental legislation andregulation, to be based in our Edinburgh office as part of our Water Environment team.

The successful individual will support a range of projectsfor clients in major public and private sector organisations in the UK, Irelandand beyondwhere maintaining compliance with environmental regulationsis essential. The successful candidate will become part of a respected andambitious company with excellent career prospects and internationalopportunities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing environmental and regulatory input andguidance on the Water Framework Directive, the Water Environment (ControlledActivities) (Scotland) Regulations 2011, as amended (CAR), Waste ManagementLicensing regulations and Guidance for Pollution Prevention to support project activities.

  • Supporting clients with obtaining any necessaryenvironmental authorisation, such as CAR licences, waste management licences orexemptions.

  • Writing and reviewing technical reports.

  • Assisting with task and project management toensure the timely delivery of projects.

  • Providing general environmental support to thewider team.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Knowledge of waste and water policies,legislation and guidance in Scotland.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the WaterFramework Directive.

  • An understanding of the Controlled ActivitiesRegulations and how these regulations are enforced.

  • Knowledge of other environmental regulationssuch as waste management licensing, pollution prevention and control.

  • Experience of working with regulatory bodies suchas SEPA and the Environment Agency.

  • Good communication, report writing andpresentation skills.

  • Experience of liaising with project managers.

  • Recognised degree level qualification with aMasters or 2nddegree preferable.

Desired:

  • Road or Rail infrastructure experience.

  • Environmental consulting experience.

  • Waste management experience, including WACanalysis.

  • Environmental monitoring skills including waterquality data analysis and assessment.

  • PPC Management Plan/ WML Working Plan writingand implementation, including actions plans.

  • Secondary skills and interest in the wider wasteand water environment sector.

  • UK driving licence.

  • Member of CIWEM, CIWM or another relevantprofessional body and be working towards Chartership.
