Your Impact:

We are looking for a Senior Process Mechanical Engineer to join our Western region ( Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta , British Columbia ) team who is excited about solving the complex water and wastewater process mechanical issues for our clients. Join us and you will be in a lead role of the technical support in the design development, application, evaluation, recommendation, and specification of engineered systems or products for process mechanical system (wastewater treatment plant, water treatment plant, pump stations, etc.)

As the lead mechanical engineer, you’ll lead process and mechanical engineering teams in the design of large municipal water and wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations. You’ll provide technical leadership in the area of process mechanical engineering both locally and regionally and advocate the use of advance engineering and automation tools in the design. You’ll provide design coordination between multiple engineering disciplines and expert advice to internal and external clients, including performing process and equipment condition assessments at water and wastewater treatment facilities and pumping stations.

You will continue to gain experience and lead other staff members on all phases of design and construction document preparation including mechanical process calculations, design, design reports, mechanical equipment condition assessment, specification writing, drawings development, cost estimation, participating in client design review meetings/workshops. Your role will also include project tender and construction tasks typically associated with the role of a consulting engineer including engaging with the supply authorities, responding to requests from contractors and clients, reviewing shop drawings, preparing site instructions and change orders, and regular site visits. You will play an active role in project proposal preparation and support Jacobs’ marketing team where you will lead the mechanical aspects of the proposal documents.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering

  • Professional Engineer license in a Canadian province

  • At least 15 years’ experience in any or a combination of the following: process modelling, design, equipment selection, interdisciplinary leadership, code and standards knowledge, commissioning of systems for municipal and/or industrial water or wastewater facilities.

  • Experience dealing with local utilities for service connection, design compliance and coordination.

  • Solid knowledge and application of the mechanical requirements and guidelines per Hydraulic Institute, AWWA, provincial water and wastewater standards and other related standards such as FDA and CDWQG.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Positive attitude, dependable, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team to meet deadlines and provide a high quality of work and mentorship and development of staff

  • Forward thinking, eager to learn and teach best practices, and contribute with innovative ideas

  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a variety of teams, including multi-disciplinary teams

  • Experience with Process Modeling (e.g. Biowin software) is an asset

  • Experience with staff supervision and mechanical group operation support is an asset

  • Experience with Energy Modeling (for LEED documentation) is an asset

  • Experience with ASME, API, ASHRAE, NFPA and Building Codes is an asset.

  • Knowledge of CADD design software such as AutoCAD and MicroStation as well as design in 3D (i.e. modelling and drafting) an asset

  • Experience with Design Build Project is an asset

  • Experience in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection system design for commercial, water/wastewater treatment, transportation, office, retail, hospitality, educational, institutional, industrial, and other similar building types is an asset
