Conducts in-house research and development efforts towards solid, liquid, and/or hybrid propellant projects.
Capable of performing bench-scale synthesis of energetic ingredients
Formulates and performs synthesis of novel propellants and evaluates the associated hazards, ballistics, and mechanical and chemical properties.
Works according to standard operating and safety procedures and develops them.
Collaborates on a multi-disciplinary team to achieve project objectives.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Must have or be able to obtain Secret security clearance and be a US Citizen
BS, MS, or Ph.D in Chemical Engineering or Ph.D in Chemistry
Theoretical and practical knowledge of polymer synthesis and analysis techniques
Experience with or understanding of analytical chemistry equipment (DSC, TGA, XRD, GC, MS, etc.)
Experience with designing/conducting experiments
Unusual or Special Physical Requirements of Position
Ability to lift 25 pounds
Must always wear PPE in lab; PPE is supplied
High noise level: 5%
Description of Work Environment
75% inside, 25% outside
Extreme heat outside in the summer is common. Proper workplace safety is observed in these conditions.
Role includes work with energetic materials and hazardous chemicals
Must have valid driver’s license
Equipment and Machines Involved in Work Tasks
- Must be able to navigate office equipment such as phone system, desktop and/or laptop, printer, copy machine, etc. and some high voltage producing lab equipment
Criticality of Attendance
9-80 schedule: every other Friday off; overtime may be required occasionally, if requested and approved by supervisor
Necessity for regular attendance: 100%
Urgency for punctuality: 100%
