Mission Statement

Jacobs is seeking a Network Administratorto support the United States Air Force’s 53rd WingTechnical Support Services (53rd WTSS) contract. This contract supports the 53rd Wing and 96th Test Wing, both headquartered at Eglin AFB, FL and having units CONUS-wide. The53 WG is the focal point for the Combat Air Forces in electronic warfare and isresponsible for operational test and evaluation of advanced equipment andsystems. The 96 TW is the USAF’s testand evaluation center for advanced air-delivered weapons, navigation andguidance systems, and C2 systems. The 53rd WTSS team partners withmilitary and civilian personnel to provide world-class IT technical support forthe 53 WG and 96 TW missions. The 53rd WTSS IT support covers fulllifecycle IT from concept, to deployment, day-to-day operations / maintenance,and culminating in system retirement / replacement / upgrade.

BothWings are headquartered at Eglin AFB, FL, adjacent to the white-sand beachesand crystal-clear waters of Northwest Florida’s Emerald Coast.

Thesuccessful candidate will support the 53rd Computer Systems Squadron (53 CSS).The 53 CSS provides communications and information systems for the 53 Wing’sfour groups. It automates, sustains, and operates wing communications andinformation systems activities including unclassified, collateral, and advancedprogram local area networks. It operates the Combat Air Force NetworkOperations Center providing classified information services to the CAFworldwide. The 53 CSS provides network capability to fuse data from multipletest facilities into one coherent picture and it develops and maintains thecomputer systems supporting the development, test, and dissemination ofelectronic warfare mission data. The 53 CSS also provides advanced programsaudiovisual support and operates and maintains a state-of-the-artvideo-teleconferencing capability.

Typical Duties

  • Researching and developingsolutions to issues that arise as part of daily operations.

  • Developing new solutions tokeep the network evolving and forward looking.

  • Providing Tier 3 support fornetwork operations.

  • Managing network local testenvironment including, routers, switches, firewalls, servers, CUCM, and VOIPphones.

  • Creating documentation and diagramsfor all projects as well as changes made to the network.

  • Attending meetings to discussthe status of projects and changes being made.

  • Maintaining firewall policieswith multiple vendors (heavy on Fortinet).

  • Identifying and exploringtraining opportunities that will benefit both the lab and operations center.

  • Working with outside agenciesfor resources, quotes, and training.

  • Working through security STIGSand determine how to make devices and configurations compliant.

  • Working in a Hyper-Venvironment to help maintain servers related to network management.

  • Working with datacenter networktechnology including Nexus switches and vPC.

  • Maintaining and developingchanges involving firewalls, routers, switches, TACLANES, Solarwinds, GEM One, andHyper-V.


RequiredEducation and Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of practical, hands-on knowledge and experience supporting a small to medium sized network.

Required Skills:

  • Experienceproviding exceptional customer service supporting networked devices.

  • Experienceresearching and developing solutions to issues that arise as part of dailyoperations.

  • Developingnew solutions to keep the network evolving and forward looking.

  • Experienceproviding Tier 3 support for network operations.

  • Experiencemanaging network local test environment including, routers, switches,firewalls, servers, CUCM, and VOIP phones.

  • Experienceanalyzing STIGS to determine how to make devices and configurations compliant.

  • Experience maintaining and developingchanges involving firewalls, routers, switches, TACLANES, Solarwinds, GEM One,Hyper-V.

Required Clearance:

  • Active / Valid DoD TS/SCI-eligible clearance (i.e. DCID 6/4 eligibility); applicant must maintain clearance in active/valid status

  • Clearance investigation close date must be no older than 5 years, 6 months at the time of application.

  • Must be willing to submit to, and be able to pass, a CI polygraph.

Required Certification:

  • Active / valid DoD 8570.01-M IAT-II certification; applicant must maintain currency of same.


  • Current CCNA certification is highly desired.

  • Practicalexperience creating documentation and diagrams for projects as well as changesmade to the network.

  • Attendingmeetings to discuss/provide status on projects and approved changes.

  • Experiencecommunicating findings and project status to high-level personnel.

  • Practicalexperience maintaining firewall policies.

  • Experienceresearching and identifying training opportunities that will benefit both thelab and operations center.

  • Experiencecoordinating with outside agencies for resources, quotes, and training.

  • Practicalexperience with the Hyper-V environment and helping to maintain servers relatedto network management.

  • Practicaldatacenter network technology experience to include Nexus switches and vPC.

Essential Functions

Physical Requirements:

  • Office setting that includes sedentary physical effort. However, may include lifting of weight up to thirty (30) pounds as necessary.

  • Must be able to work well with co-workers and all levels of management.

  • No hazards on job or unusual environmental conditions. Work site is located in Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

Work Environment:

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position may require typing, and reading from a computer screen.

  • Must have sufficient mobility, including but not limited to bending, reaching, and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner.

  • There is a possibility that due to parking availability and location of work, walking moderate to long distance may be required.

Equipment and Machines:

  • Ability to operate office equipment such as personal computer, printer, copy machine, telephone, fax machine and other equipment including desk supplies and other work related tools as required.


  • Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Regular attendance of scheduled hours is extremely important, but not critical, except for deadlines and meetings.

  • Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary to meet deadlines.

  • Must exhibit flexibility of work hours to adjust to surge situations based on critical mission requirements.

Other Essential Functions:

Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management and co-workers. Must have clear, concise and accurate communications skills in English, both verbal and written. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to employees or others. Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner. Independent personal transportation to work site is required. Travel to and from customer's locations may be required to support projects. This may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can possibly be made for POV, if necessary. When operating any vehicle for work purposes, must wear seat belt and in addition, no cellular devices are to be used when vehicle is in motion.
