Position Summary

Participates in the design of a process unit, including establishing process design basis, development of process options and optimization of selected design. Supervisory and administrative responsibility over a group of engineers or functions as a technical specialist formulating and developing advanced concepts, techniques, and standards. Responsibilities include assuring effective utilization of engineering personnel, and technical quality.

  • Provide comprehensive complex engineering and design services by establishing the design criteria and implementing the preparation of specifications, design computations and deliverables in accordance with project equirements.

  • Plans, develops, coordinates and reviews process engineering work on a project or assignment

  • Develops the process design for a project or proposal consisting of a normal process unit

  • Reviews technical bid analysis submissions provided by a senior engineer or vendor and subcontractor

  • Reviews improvements to discipline design standards and procedures

  • Participates in plant start-up and commissioning

  • Reviews plant operating procedures

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to more junior engineering staff.

  • Maintain effective communication with project team members and with the customer

  • Assist Chief Engineer with selection, recruiting and development of engineering staff and contractors.

  • Act as the Lead Engineer on small projects and studies, aligning tasks the managing staff hour budgets with available resources.

  • Monitor overall performance and continuously analyse performance on Projects to detect and avoid problems and to seize improvement opportunities.

  • Ensure projects or assigned scopes are on budget and schedule and any change is controlled effectively.

  • Deliver consistently and accurately over time.


  • Recognized Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Metallurgical or Chemical engineering from an accredited college or University required

  • 10 years’ of relevant experience required

  • Experience in the various study phases (scoping to detailed engineering, systems start-up, field engineering or plant operation in mineral processing facilities, utilities, process plants, or engineering/construction firms preferred

  • Specific background in material handling, mineral processing for copper, gold, and other base or precious metals hydro-metallurgy experience preferred

  • Specific background in fluid flow, heat transfer, and utility systems preferred

  • Broad technical knowledge of engineering, and project execution is required

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required

  • P.E. License preferred, QP status preferred
