Your Impact:

Jacobs is seeking a Senior Software Database Engineer to provide operational database administration to the organization through partnering with architects, developers, and support personnel.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Database administration and maintenance

  • Owning, tracking, and resolving database related incidents

  • Fulfilling requests and resolving incidents within the scope of the applicable service level agreements (SLAs)

  • Ensuring backups are performed regularly

  • Maintenance, upkeep and security (at levels required within the SLAs) of the databases

  • Responding to database related alerts and escalations

  • Working with architects, project application engineers, and database engineers to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems

Database instances will be hosted within the organization as well as remotely hosted in organizational spaces owned by other intelligence agencies. The candidate will also provide Tier 2 support to operational systems and will be on call to provide the support after regular working hours.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer engineering or in a field related to the computer engineering or computer science disciplines

  • 8 years of Software Engineering experience. An additional 4+ years of Software Engineering experience may be substituted for the degree for a total of 12 years.

  • At least 3 years of experience in the SIGINT, IA and IT domains

  • 5+ years of experience developing enterprise-grade Java applications

  • 2+ years of experience developing high-performance, multi-threaded applications, or applications executed in distributed computing environments

  • 1+ year of experience writing software using message-oriented middleware such as JMS, AMQP, STOMP, or MQTT

  • Demonstrated experience processing large data sets or high-volume data ingest

  • Ability to debug and resolve application errors and performance bottlenecks in a timely and effective manner

  • Ability to clearly communicate ideas and status updates to peers and management

  • Experience developing, deploying, and maintaining software in an Enterprise Linux environment

  • Experience developing software with Git, Maven and Gradle

  • Expert knowledge of Oracle v12 and Oracle 19c, including Oracle Streams, RMAN, and GOLDENGATE


  • Experience with Complex Event Processing (CEP)

  • Experience with Business Rules Management Systems (Drools)

  • Experience with Cross Domain Solutions and Security Boundaries

  • Knowledge of the Spring Framework and Dependency Injection

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field

Most work will be done at a desk or computer.

Work Environment:

General Office environment. The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers.

Equipment & Machines:

General office equipment including PC/laptop, Fax, Copiers, Shredder, Printers, Telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.


Attendance is always critical. Must be able to work a 40-hour workweek, normally Monday through Friday. However, times and days may vary depending on business requirements. Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situation occur.

Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Must be able to interface with individuals at all levels of the organization both verbally and in writing. Must be well-organized with the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously. Must work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements. Must be willing to travel as needed. Must take and pass a drug test and background check as well as a motor vehicle records check. Must be a US citizen.
