Pre-Construction Piping Lead Engineer / Configiuration Control Coordinator


ITER is a unique, first of a kind project that aims to demonstrate the technical and scientific feasibility of fusion energy.

Jacobs one of three partners making up the Consortium MOMENTUM (construction management-as-agent contractor) is project managing the construction and assembly of more than one million components in world’s largest fusion reactor.

As construction management-as-agent contractor, MOMENTUM is managing the construction and assembly of the first full-scale test reactor to include balance of plant and the Tokomak itself. Jacobs is recruiting for an established Pre Construction Piping Lead Engineer / Configuration Control Coordinator with at least 7 years of experience to work on the ITER Project near Aix-en-Provence, France.

He/She will be responsible for:

  • Directly reporting to the Pre-Construction Manager

  • Takes direction from and interacts directly with the Pre-Construction Manager for Functional topics

  • Takes direction from and interacts directly with the Project Delivery Managers for Delivery topics

  • Focus on delivery, value for money and value creation activities

  • Provide regular reports to the CMA and IO stakeholders on the status of the execution of the processes under his/her responsibility.

  • Form strong relationships with the Pre-Construction team

  • Form strong relationships with the other MOMENTUM departments (Construction Management, Material Management, Coordination, QC, Completion)

  • Monitor the team work progress

  • Raise technical and organisational concerns to the Pre-Construction Manager

Pre-Construction Piping Lead Engineer

  • Co-ordination of the Pre-Construction activities associated to the scope assigned:

  • Assessment of Constructability, including identification of potential optimisations in schedule or scope

  • Initial Construction Readiness Reviews

  • Preparation or update of the documentation related to the Engineering Work Package (EWP)

  • Preparation and dispatch of the documentation related to the Construction Work Package (CWP)

  • Review of Installation Work Package (IWP) submitted by the Contractor

  • Planning and tracking delivery of CWP and other Pre-Construction activities

  • Support Events Management – Request for Information (RFI), Deviation Request (DR) and Field Change Request (FCR)

  • Day-to-day operational management of the CWP Preparation personnel in the Delivery Team

  • Expert in all Pre-Construction matters for its assigned scope

Pre-Construction Configuration Control Coordinator

  • Coordinates the team of the Pre-Construction Configuration Controllers

  • Responsible for the processing, expediting and closure of the Construction Events RFI, FCR, DR and managing the synthesis table for reporting

  • Support the Pre-Construction manager in developing the role of the configuration control team to new boundaries and manpower

  • Manage the activities related to the implementation and deployment of the Construction Event modules.


Specific skills:

  • Technical experience managing configuration of construction work in a large scale project environment

  • Construction Preparation experience in a large scale project environment, with additional international construction experience

  • More than 5 years of experience in Construction / Construction Preparation

  • More than 2 years of experience in Engineering

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills along with creative solution and problem solving skills

  • Knowledge on piping engineering documents (P&ID, ISO, tie-in books, support drawings, BOM, valve lists,…)

  • Knowledge on piping construction sequence and testing during Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning phases

General skills:

  • Fluent in English, with additional French preferred.

  • Very organized and structured

  • Self-motivated and high sense of responsibility

  • Good team player and able to interface with other disciplines

  • Ability to adapt with the low and high workload and ability to adapt with the onsite or in office job
