Jacobs Water/Wastewater Design Engineer in Gainesville, Florida

We have an exciting opportunity for a Water/Wastewater Design Engineer aligned to our Water Solution Center in Gainesville, FL. In this role, you will be a part of one of the largest water market delivery centers in the southern United States. You will lead the water and wastewater facility designs for conventional and design build projects ranging from $1M to over $250M in construction and support diverse projects around the region. With a strong backlog in both water treatment and wastewater treatment projects there are unlimited opportunities to focus on the technologies and growth that you desire. While being in Gainesville is preferred in order to support mentoring and career opportunities for our design teams and enhance coordination and efficiency on our projects, a hybrid remote arrangement is feasible depending on experience in the market and demonstrated ability to successfully work as part of distributed teams.

As a Process Mechanical Engineer you will work with a core group of water/wastewater engineers and designers on water and wastewater treatment designs and construction services support to deliver innovative solutions to challenging technical problems that our clients face. You will work collaboratively with our team to complete the following:

• Evaluation and selection of process equipment, pumping systems, pipe materials, and valves

• Development of facility layouts and process & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)

• Development of construction documents, including drawings and specifications

• Data analysis and hydraulic modeling

• Technical report writing

• Construction services support

You will also use your leadership skills to work with diverse, technical teams to deliver challenging projects while serving and developing clients across the United States and internationally. Jacobs has a strong technical water/wastewater treatment background, and you will have the opportunity to connect to and work with our technical experts across the company.

Here's what you'll need

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, civil or environmental engineering or related engineering discipline

• Hold an active Professional Engineer (PE) license

• A minimum of 7 years of progressive process mechanical engineering and project delivery experience with water, wastewater and/or industrial treatment, including planning, evaluations, and design

• Educational emphasis and a strong interest in process mechanical system design and operation

• Self-motivation, team-oriented work practices, strong data analysis skills, technical problem-solving ability, organizational skills, and the ability to effectively multi-task in a fast-paced environment

• Proficient skills with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• Successful experience with working with remote domestic and international staff

Ideally, you’ll also have:

• Experience specific to municipal wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and conveyance systems

• 3 or more years of direct experience as a process mechanical engineer for water/wastewater treatment projects -Hydraulic modeling skills (e.g. AFT Fathom, Pipe-Flo)

• Construction or facility operations experience

• Ability to serve as the technical liaison between the project owner and design team

• Desire to mentor junior staff
