Business Unit Description:

The Government Solutions sector within Jacobs UK Ltd. provide engineering, design, construction, planning, support, survey, design-build, project management and/or program management for our Nuclear and Defence industry clients. With more than fifty years of experience across the complete nuclear and defence asset lifecycle, we support client delivery and the associated infrastructure requirements at every stage of a project. Our team is experiencing exciting growth within our established practice and we have a need for a strong Electrical Engineer.

Role Outline/Responsibilities:

  • Preparing RAMS, carrying out visual and intrusive inspections analysing data and reporting.

  • Prepare plans, basis of design, functional and technical specifications, contract documents and estimates.

  • Performs calculations and evaluations in the design of systems and equipment for industrial and commercial applications.

  • Manage complex electrical engineering/design tasks.

  • Participates in planning, cost development and management, and scheduling for assigned projects

  • Directs activities to ensure that construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications, recognized codes and standards, and customer requirements.

  • Maintains effective communication with project team members and with the customer.

  • Performs other duties assigned by Technical Director or Project/Engineering Manager.



  • A minimum of 5 years experience in electrical design and engineering.

  • Detailed knowledge in all relevant engineering standards.

  • Background in project design work in specialist area preferred (i.e. nuclear and defence sector).

  • Experience in HV/LV generation and distribution systems and associated control and protection systems.

  • Experience in electrical building services.

  • Experience in cable sizing and using cable sizing software.

  • Commercial awareness.

  • Experience in a contracting environment, relevant site experience.

  • Possess suitable security clearance or capable of obtaining relevant NSV clearance under.

  • Must be a sole UK national.

  • Willing to work in Glasgow/West Scotland location.


  • Professionally qualified (e.g. Incorporated/Chartered) Engineer with a degree (preferred but not necessary) in a relevant discipline.

  • Demonstrated record of maintaining own skills and knowledge at the forefront of the field.

  • Knowledge of Safety Case and how it interfaces with design.

  • Experienced in using AutoCAD software or similar.
