Role Outline/Responsibilities:

This role is a secondment for BAES.

To provide both functional and delivery leadership on behalf of Naval Ships for the successful business wide implementation and management of Product Configuration Management (CM). This will include all aspects of Product CM relating to people, process, information and technology to ensure they enable the Naval Ships business objectives.

Own the product variation management business requirement and lead its successful realisation, including ship applicability and variant management

Develop a CM vision and strategy including an implementation roadmap and leadership for its successful realisation. Lead on the delivery and management of processes, education, support and capability for the CM solution across all Naval ships programmes to quality, cost and budget.

Focal point for customer engagement including ensuring requirements are understood, incorporated into the configuration management strategy and deliverables meet requirements

Provide functional leadership for the development of CM as a key business capability and ensure CM expertise is developed and effective succession planning is enabled.

Develop, lead, and deliver an industry leading CM organisation across Naval Ships programmes to ensure standardised and repeatable Engineering processes, product information management and enabling technology.

Lead the development and utilisation of a CM resource hub with embedded resource planning to meet all Naval Ships programme requirements including provision of a minimum capability level and the rationalisation / optimisation of supervisory overhead.

Lead, manage and support applicable Customer / Stakeholder groups to ensure the successful adoption of the CM capability.

Develop and deliver CM as a key differentiator for BAES UK and export business winning opportunities

Document, agree and deliver process and quality improvement for CM across Naval Ships

Audit and authorise contractual configuration management deliverables including alignment with international CM standards

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

  • Degree qualified in Engineering related discipline

  • Chartered Engineer or CM equivalent

  • 10 years’ experience of CM in complex export Engineering environments

  • Experienced in Life Cycle Management reviews of bids and programmes.

  • Customer/end user focus/experience

Key Technical Skills:

  • Industry leading CM expertise across people, process, information and technology for highly complex engineering products

  • Industry leading understanding of complex engineering requirements for CM and how they relate to business objectives

  • Proven experience in successfully delivering CM in complex engineering environments for export customers

  • Proven understanding of the management of product information relating to multiple/variant products

  • Proven experience with CM strategy development in relation to business objectives

  • Proven experience in technical and business requirements elicitation for technology solutions

  • Proven experience with the successful implementation, and support of, CM processes and toolsets, especially PTC Windchill or Siemens Teamcenter

  • Proven expertise in PLM related theories and disciplines, including Product Data, Document and Product Change Management.

  • Strong understanding of Import/Export, Intellectual property and Security responsibilities and processes.

  • Experience with the implementation of Import/Export processes for collaborative Export bids.

  • Proven CM leadership skills in a highly complex product design/build engineering environment

  • Proven experience with successful senior management engagement with CM in relation to business objectives

  • Proven ability to develop and sustain strong professional relationships with key stakeholders for successful realisation of CM objectives

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills at all levels, including senior management, technical and IM&T.

  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplined teams to successfully deliver CM

  • Proven ability to develop relationships to ensure successful agreement and implementation of CM stakeholder requirements

  • Strong communication skills when briefing individuals and groups at all levels of the organisation
