Our Government Solutions operating unit, which sits within our Aerospace, Technology and Nuclear – International (ATN-I) line of business, provides a diverse range of services including mechanical and electrical building services, mechanical handling, civil and structural engineering, systems engineering, nuclear safety case development, and project and programme management.
Our business is providing design and management services supporting nuclear and defence clients. This includes supporting the UK submarine fleet, designing key facilities at, for example, Faslane, Barrow-in-Furness, and Devonport, and providing design services for the Atomic Weapons Establishment. We also provide support to both existing and new build nuclear power stations.
We are looking to recruit high calibre staff to support our technical delivery capability to meet opportunities in the nuclear and defence industries.
Role Outline/ Responsibilities
Mechanical Engineer in the nuclear and defence industries. Responsibilities include:
Mechanical engineering support on large multidisciplinary projects
Developing and maturing mechanical engineering designs and developing supporting documentation
Developing engineering analysis and calculation to substantiate designs
Technical quality and excellence of your work
Clear and effective communication with clients and other design team members
Supporting business development activities including mechanical aspects of proposals
Technical and professional support and “buddying” of other engineers within the team
Adherence and contribution to business and quality management systems, operational and design safety, and promoting Jacobs safety culture
Managing your time and delivering work to schedule and on budget.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree in a Mechanical Engineering discipline
Experience in mechanical design
Experience in mechanical codes and standards
Experience in designing and commissioning mechanical systems
Chartered Engineer or working towards becoming chartered with a recognised institution (e.g IMechE, CIBSE)
Experience of mechanical systems for the Nuclear Industry (HVAC, mechanical handling and rotating machinery)
Experience of nuclear safety and justification requirements
Experience of design engineering analysis and calculation
Familiarity with engineering software packages including Mathcad, CAD, BIM, Hevacomp and simulation packages
Producing tender specification for mechanical systems
Experience of Value Engineering (VE)/Optioneering Workshops
Experience of HAZOP/HAZID Workshops
Experience of ALARP Reviews
Experience of Reliability Engineering techniques e.g. FMEA, FTA.
Experience of working for or with an engineering consultancy
Experience of working alongside third parties and supervision of subcontractors.
