Within our Water and Environment business our Carbon and Energy team advises clients on the challenges and opportunities regarding climate change and sustainability issues including: carbon accounting, policy and regulatory support; net zero carbon strategic roadmaps; carbon neutrality; decentralised, decarbonised generation and energy transition; and the circular economy.
Our wider energy and sustainability teams comprise in excess of 1000 staff based predominantly in the UK, but with significant global reach across our offices.
About the opportunity
Jacobs are looking for a highly motivated senior consultant to join its Carbon and Energy Consulting team to take a lead role, directly supporting a wide range of clients as they transition to a net zero carbon future. Supporting holistic climate strategies for our large portfolio of clients covering carbon footprinting; Climate Action Strategies; science based targets; net zero road maps; with a particular focus on leading carbon offsetting/insetting initiatives.
The successful candidate with join a diverse team to deliver continued growth in our services to support clients understand their responsibilities to meet the challenge of decarbonisation and create leading strategies to set and implement challenging targets. In joining the team, you will require a strong background in offsetting markets to support the development and implementation of our service offering.
You will be responsible for supporting the development of our service offering; managing and delivering projects and workstreams, providing advice and innovative approaches relating to climate change issues & decarbonisation, liaising with clients, and contributing to business development. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse portfolio of high-profile clients, and on exciting projects in the UK and globally.
An essential part of this role is working with a wider team on projects relating to decarbonisation and energy neutrality. We are interested in an individual that can lead the following types of projects/workstreams:
Corporate carbon footprint reporting & GHG Protocol;
Carbon offsetting markets, projects and financing;
Carbon offsetting verification & standards (such as PAS2060);
Renewable/low carbon technologies;
Primary Role Responsibilities
The successful candidate will need to undertake tasks such as:
Deliver strategic services – key contributor in developing organisation’s vision and roadmap;
Lead discussions with a range of stakeholders at all levels (internal networks, clients, sectors etc.)
Establish stakeholder engagement - programme development and workshops;
Build strong client relationships and influence executive level stakeholders;
Champion the principles of decarbonisation and carbon offsetting, bringing inspiring innovative solutions to grow our service offering;
Support on bidding and sales opportunities across our framework clients and consultancy clients within the UK and globally;
Ensure quality deliverables through implementation of best practice;
Develop talent within the team by coaching and mentoring less experienced staff and supporting their technical career development aspirations;
Provide effective signposting to offsetting and insetting programmes and draw on sector knowledge of external organisations;
Maintain knowledge of energy/carbon policy developments, energy markets and wider energy/sustainability issues.
Candidates should be able to consider innovative solutions and “out of the box” thinking to our client’s changing regulatory and economic environment and leading them through the transition to net zero carbon.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
A degree in an environmental, science or engineering discipline 2:1 or above;
A postgraduate qualification (or equivalent) is desirable;
Extensive experience of providing climate change services with a strong bias towards carbon offsetting and insetting;
Strong communicator who is able to:
engage with stakeholders at all levels including executive level senior managers;
ability to engage with colleagues and clients and provide clear, evidence-based advice verbally and within written reports and presentations.
Track record in managing consultancy projects and delivering against challenging timeframes, delivering value for money;
Strong interpretation skills to comprehend the client’s commitment to decarbonisation and willingness to offset remaining impacts;
Strategic leadership skills to undertake options and scenario planning for carbon neutrality pathways and develop and implement net zero carbon roadmaps;
A breadth of experience and working knowledge of carbon offsetting and insetting markets, project implementation and validation options;
Strong data validation and analysis skills are essential. As such a high level of competency in MS Excel is expected;
A good understanding across a range of sustainability issues and services.
