About the opportunity:

Jacobs is looking for a junior engineer to join the CDM Team on the Hinkley Point C (HPC) project. The ideal candidate would have a mechanical or building services engineering background with awareness/knowledge of MEH design codes, but engineers with other relevant backgrounds and a proactive attitude will be considered.

The successful person will be part of the Jacobs CDM Managed Service, which advises the HPC design teams to ensure that they have adequately considered conventional safety. This is to ensure that contractors installing and later operating the Nuclear Power Plant are as safe as possible when doing so.

You will work as a junior member of our CDM Managed service, under the guidance of more senior team members, working both independently and as part of the collaborative team to ensure consistency across the project.

You’ll be required to review design safety documents, communicate hazard/risk information to various stake holders on the project. You will work closely with the contractor engineering leads, key stakeholders, design consultants and contractors to deliver a safe and compliant design.

Jacobs is a key partner for Hinkley Point C (HPC) and the Client in the UK. We hold a 10-year framework to provide Professional Consultancy Services to HPC including Engineering, Nuclear Safety and CDM.

Note2: Based on our Client office in Barnwood Gloucester eventually moving to Gloucester Business Park. Monday to Friday – 40 hours per week. Remote working for part of work may be considered.

Note3: Travel and Subsistence may be considered for non-locals.

Essential:

  • Appropriate qualifications in an Engineering or Health and Safety subject with a minimum award of a level 3 Engineering qualification.

  • Strong computer literacy skills (e.g. able to fully use MS Word, Excel, etc. without guidance).

  • Good report writing, verbal communication, written communication, and presentation skills.

  • Self-motivated, with an ability and desire to work collaboratively.

  • A questioning mindset.

  • The desire to take responsibility for your work.

  • Experience or an interest in gaining experience in the construction sector.

  • Demonstrable communication skills with stakeholders both internally and externally.

  • Act with integrity and possess a conscientious approach.

  • Fluent in English, written & verbal.

Desired:

  • Higher level Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering qualification e.g. MEng, BEng, or HND + experience, HNC + experience.

  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent.

  • Knowledge and experience of British engineering design codes in Mechanical, and/or Electrical, and/or HVAC disciplines.

  • Knowledge of HSSE legislation including LOLER, PUWER and CDM.

  • French language skills, both written & verbal.
