About the opportunity:


The multi-billion Hinkley Point C (HPC) project is the cornerstone of the Nuclear New Build market in the UK. The project is circa 40% complete and is now starting the transition from Civils construction into multi-trade delivery, including MEH and Equipment installation.

We have provided significant support to the project dating back to 2010 and have recently agreed a long-term partnership agreement with HPC which runs until the end of the project in another seven years or so. This provides a great opportunity for us to add further value to the project and to plan for the future.

Given the complexity and length of the project, it provides a unique opportunity for people to learn about all stages of Nuclear New Build delivery and to really develop and grow as individuals. Several the existing team have developed from Graduates into Project Manager roles and people development is at the heart of our business and partnership agreement with HPC.

Having direct hands on experience and learning from HPC will also be important for people wanting to work on the NNB projects of the future both in the UK, Europe and Middle East.

Role Overview:

Hinkley Point ‘C’ (HPC) is a vital part of the UK’s future energy strategy. As the first of the UK’s next generation of Nuclear power stations, HPC is both of high profile and high complexity. The project is delivered through an organisation that comprises multi-disciplinary teams.

The role is part of the Safety Case Team in Maintain Design Integrity. Primarily the role will be supporting Pre-Commissioning safety case production, before moving to the operational safety case, with the successful candidate having already a first level role in safety case production, covering some elements, including authoring the safety case documentation itself. The role is part of a multi-disciplined Safety Case Branch of around 15 professional scientists and engineers providing support to the HPC project.

Main Responsibilities will include:

  • Helping with the internal quality assurance processes for the safety case documentation (including intermediate documents)

  • Progressing deliverables through the document management system (and becoming a Team Center guide for the team)

  • Writing aspects of the safety case, where loose ends need tying up.

The role would suit an organised, keen and enthusiastic junior engineer with 2 to 3 years of experience of the development and management of nuclear safety cases. This would include a good understanding of the importance of management arrangements (e.g. QA procedures) that are required to support the development of such cases.

The purpose of this role is to provide general support to the Safety Case Branch to develop the Top Tier safety report.

The Safety Case Engineer requires:

  • An organised, keen and enthusiastic junior engineer with 2 to 3 years of experience of the development and management of nuclear safety cases.

  • Awareness of UK context nuclear safety cases that span multiple disciplines;

  • The ability to develop strong and effective working relationships within the team and with other branches across NNB and the Technical Client Organisation;

  • Strong awareness of QA procedures in a safety case context and an ability to manage QA arrangements under the guidance of technical leads;

  • Ability to pick up, understand and manage Teamcenter.

The right candidate will also have

  • Degree or similar qualification in science or engineering or related field.

  • Making progress towards Chartership
