About the Opportunity

Jacobs is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Nuclear Power Engineering and Technical Services Business. NPETS is entering an exciting phase of opportunity by supporting our key client’s UK nuclear fleet through a business transformation, and by supporting new small modular reactor developers. Our work is varied, covering New Build, Generation, Life Extension, and Defueling, and our capabilities are in demand across the nuclear sector.

This is an exciting role with the opportunity to gain great experience in the Nuclear industry, supporting our clients based at stations or facilities for periods of time. Therefore, a willingness to travel and potentially be based away from home during the working work will be required. At times, there will also be the facility to work from a Jacobs office or from home dependent on client and project requirements. You will report into the Plant Optimisation and Engineering Manager and work closely with other Mechanical, Process and reliability engineers in the team.

Candidates will be familiar with the requirements of working in a regulated environment providing ER support and as a Jacobs employee, you will deliver work to high HSSE standards in compliance to HSSE regulations. Responsibilities will include:

  • Producing detailed design drawings, calculations, design control plans, validation & verification plans, designers risk assessments, quality plans

  • Production of or contribution to substantiation reports, operating and maintenance operating procedures in line with manufacturing specifications, equipment recovery plans, test procedures and test reports

  • Preparing technical solutions to meet customer requirements and initial concepts to provide optimal project solutions with current best practice and to the relevant standards and procedures

  • Supporting design reviews and HAZOPs

  • Maintaining and developing associated client relationships

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or related subjects

  • Chartered or Incorporated member of IMechE or equivalent or desire to work towards chartership

  • Experience of design assurance and ability to apply standards and regulations in one or more of the following technical disciplines would be preferable:

  • Cranes/Lifting equipment

  • HVAC

  • Pipework (designed to ASME code)

  • Rotating plant

  • Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams
