Your Impact:

The Applicant for this position will be responsible for design, development and testing of detectors and and associated system. You will also collaboarate in the development of automated test and evaluation (ATE) sytems that test Detector. The ATE system will characterized, qualifiy and validate various detector components and their systems. You will be responsible directs activities associated with detector/instrument engineering. Plans and implements detector/instrument engineering studies, analyses, and development in support of flight, airborne, and ground mechanical and electrical hardware including all scientific and support software required to operate and/or test the associated equipment and/or facility. Participate in the conception, design and building of laboratory bench tests, jigs and testing fixtures for the characterization of silicon strip and pixel sensors. Contribute to the service provided in the DDL in communicating with clients, performing measurements and supervising clients using facility equipment or infrastructure.Take part in detector construction and infrastructure projects in the group. Prepare and participate in design reviews. Diagnose problems and formulate rework or redesign solution.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Higher technical diploma Undergrad or Graduate degree from an accredited college in the field of electro-mechanics, or equivalent. A minimum 5 years of experience with with an interdisciplinary background in the development of aerospace hardware. A minimum of 3 years of flight detector/instrument hardware/software development experience is also required. Demonstrated experience in electro-mechanical systems in an industrial or a research environment. Demonstrated experience in design and machining of mechanical parts; precision assembly and construction would be an advantage. Experience in clean room operation Knowledge of laboratory bench-test systems for electrical or quality assurance testing, and the design, installation and/or maintenance of electronic systems will be considered an asset. The technical competencies required for this position are a demonstrated experience modleing systems using MatLab and coding in Python for data acquisition from detectors. Experience working within a technical infrastructure operation, 3D and 2D technical drawing. Technical experience with the installation, maintenance and operation of control systems: and/or use data acquisition and treatment software (e.g. labview, device drivers). Experience working in a fast paced engineering environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out detector calibration and performance tests, develop test fixtures, setup test hardware, prepare flight hardware for testing, and perform testing and test data analysis and test report writing.

  • Must be well acquainted with critical space hardware cleanliness requirements and contamination control in the handling and protection of detector devices and subsystems in clean room and laminar flow bench environments, and be ESD cognizant, trained and certified to handle flight hardware.
