Maintenance and Reliability Specialist


Maintenance and ReliabilitySpecialist (MRS) will assist the Maintenance and Reliability Engineer increating/managing the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Plan in accordancewith contract requirements.

Develop and implement acomprehensive facility RCM program for the equipment and facilities at NASAGoddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). Establish the most efficient maintenanceorganization to preserve GSFC’s facility capability and capital investment,enable mission performance, and minimize facility life-cycle costs.

Will collect and use the data perthe CMMS MAXIMO Job Plan for each piece of equipment.

Will be experienced in PT&Itechnologies:

  • Perform vibrationanalysis at the capability at or exceeding ISO 18436 levels. Shall use the existing established vibrationdata base for analysis, trending and reporting.

  • Shall beexperienced in the collection of oil samples for analysis and oil analysissoftware, MCE use and analysis, ultrasonic and ultrasound testing and analysis,shaft and sheave alignment, and balancing of rotational facilitiesequipment.

  • InterpretPT&I data reports and enter the data into CMMS for the equipmentanalyzed. MRS is responsible for upkeepand updating of PT&I equipment as well as providing training in thesetechnologies and information for upgrades to PT&I equipment and processesto fellow employees.

Maintain and keep current all RCMPT&I software and data.

Use PT&I technologies includingvibration analysis, motor analysis, thermography, laser alignment, airborneultrasound, and oil analysis. Assist theMRE with the required analyses shall include structured methods such as rootcause failure analysis, and failure modes and effects analysis.


The primary role of the Maintenance and Reliability Specialist(MRS) position is to identify and manage asset reliability. He/she will beresponsible for proposing solutions to improve existing systems as they relateto Operations and Maintenance. He/shewill be expected to support the evolution of NASA’s Computer MaintenanceManagement System (CMMS-Maximo) which is expected to include field mobilityand/or mobile connectivity. Responsiblefor optimizing work processes and administrative controls while utilizing CBM(Condition Based Maintenance) and RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance)principles that can be applied to existing and future Preventative MaintenanceWork Orders.

The Maintenance and Reliability Specialist will report tothe Maintenance and Reliability Engineer (MRE). The MRS will also coordinate with other managers to integrate PT&Itechnologies, RCM practices and optimize maintenance job plans. Assistthe MRE with performing failure mode effects analysis, root cause analysis, andPareto analysis; using those results to improve uptime of assets.

Facilitate RCM training to NASA and prime contractorpersonnel to increase CMRP certifications.

Able to integrate PT&I and RCM bestpractices with OEM equipment by following/improving manufacturer's instructionsand established procedures. Able tomodify existing job plans to implement RCM best practices.


Requiredexperience: 6 years.

DesiredCertifications: CMRT, CMRP
