Air Operations Technician
Jacobs has partneredwith NASA to support space flight programs for more than 40 years. While themajority of work is directly in support of LaRC, other industry partners andGovernment agencies may be supported at remote sites as directed by theContracting Officer (CO). The Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering(CMOE) contract comprises of three major categories of work – operations, maintenance,and engineering (OME), as described below.
Maintenance – Research andinstitutional facility maintenance includes, but not limited to, preventivemaintenance, trouble calls, repairs, Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM),Facility Condition Assessment (FCA), and maintenance/operation of centralutilities (e.g., electrical power distribution, potable water, storm waterdrainage)
Operations – Facilities Operations support includes, but not limitedto, wind tunnels, laboratories, and test stands testing, instrumentationcalibration/repair; plant and utilities (e.g., high pressure air, LiquidNitrogen (LN2) and Steam Plant); technology development and administration,including, but not limited to, Facility Automation Systems (FAS) and DataAcquisition Systems (DAS)
Engineering – Facility engineering includes, but notlimited to, engineering studies, design, construction, construction management,configuration management, tactical engineering, pressure systemrecertification, project management/planning support.
Develops or reviewsdesigns by extracting and analyzing a variety of engineering data. Appliesconventional engineering practices to develop, prepare, or recommendschematics, designs, specifications, electrical drawings and parts lists.Conducts tests or experiments requiring selection and adaptation ormodification of a wide variety of critical test equipment and test procedures;sets up and operates equipment; records data, measures and records problems ofsignificant complexity that sometimes require resolution at a higher level; andanalyzes data and prepares test reports. Applies methods outlined by others tolimited segments of research and development projects; constructs experimentalor prototype models to meet engineering requirements; conducts test orexperiments and redesigns as necessary; and records and evaluates data andreports findings.
U.S. Citizenship is required.Two (2) years of college with courses in computer science, mathematics, or related engineering courses, plus two (2) years of related experience in data reduction and analysis, or any equivalent
combination of relevant education and experience for a total of four (4) years.
Experience with anypower generating equipment is a plus.
Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in repairing mechanical systems such as pumps, valves, reciprocating/centrifugal engines and principle knowledge of engine/motor operations and its various components.
Experienced in reading and identifying typical symbols onmechanical schematics/drawings.
Experienced in the purpose, understanding andfollowing of written standard operating procedures and guidelines.
Knowledge ofOSHA Red Tag and equipment Lockout/Tagout standards, and plant/equipmentmaintenance and reliability is a plus.
Office environment. (75%). Test/Industrial Environment – May be exposed toareas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals andindustrial facilities. (85%)
Travel between facilities and test operations may be required and may bringexposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment and chemicaloperations. (5%)
Must have sufficient mobility to enter into confined spaces, crawl into or ontovarious assemblies while maintaining a clear vision of safety is required. Potentialexposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants and the like.Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions. Must be ableto walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb,crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs. (10%)

Must be able to obtainand maintain a security clearance as required. Employees will exercisediligence when developing a Safe Plan of Action (SPA) for each task performed.Your SPA is a Company provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents,accidents, and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you arerequired to use. A valid driver’s license is required.
