Serves as the Facility Engineer for the Measurements Systems Laboratory at NASA Langley Research Center. The position is responsible for the architectural and structural components of the facility, and the proper operation of lab, plumbing, fire suppression, and electrical systems. Tasks include customer interaction, management of contractors for minor construction or warranty repairs, and response to building or system incidents.
The Facility Engineer will perform the following functions:
Ensure the building and its energy systems (lab, lighting, electrical) are operating properly, efficiently, and are well maintained
Write and present various reports (weekly and monthly) on facility system operations, energy usage and maintenance
Identify and correct operations that can cause loss of performance, inefficient use of consumables, and equipment failures or shutdowns
Address warranty issues that may arise
Ensure any modification or repair to the building is consistent with good engineering practice
Ensure safe operation of the facility and a safe environment for occupants
Here’s What You’ll Need:
U.S. Citizenship required. BS degree from an ABET accredited school in Mechanical Engineering and eight (8) to twelve
(12) years related engineering experience, or a MS degree from an ABET accredited school and seven (7) to ten
(10) years of related engineering experience or Ph.D. from an ABET accredited school and two (2) to five (5) years of
related engineering experience. LEED Accredited Professional is preferred but not mandatory. Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate facility issues to client and to develop weekly and monthly reports on facility status.
Office environment. (85%) Test/Industrial Environment- May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals and industrial facilities. Travel between facilities and test sites is required. Travel between various facilities/test operations is required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment operation.

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.) (50%) Safety and Personal Protective Equipment (20%)
The ability to enter into confined spaces, crawl into or onto various assemblies while maintaining a clear vision of safety is required. Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants and the like. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs.

Must be able to balance scope, schedule and budget to insure project success. The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required. A valid driver’s license is required.
