Jacobs has partnered with NASA to support space flight programs for more than 40 years. While the majority of work is directly in support of LaRC, other industry partners and Government agencies may be supported at remote sites as directed by the Contracting Officer (CO). The Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering (CMOE) contract comprises of three major categories of work – operations, maintenance, and engineering (OME).
The Mechanical Designer shall provide a range of skills as part of an integrated building services design team. The designer will be responsible for providing system design: calculations and other related design services including coordination with the designs of other disciplines (architectural and engineering / internal and external) under the guidance of more senior technical staff. The designer will take ownership of the completeness, accuracy and timeliness of the work assigned to you. Individuals in this position must demonstrate the ability to design complicated and involved projects while working in conjunction with a technical team.
Prepare Process, HVAC, and Plumbing drawings detailing concepts and the finalized system designed.
Assists senior engineer and/or senior designer in the on-going determination of project scheduling requirements, manpower requirements, and project budgets.
Prepare mechanical system calculations, studies, construction cost estimates, specifications, and construction schedules.
Select equipment and components for use in the building or process design.
Coordinate work with engineers of other disciplines and architects.
U.S. Citizenship is required.Two (2) years of college with courses in computer science, mathematics, or related engineering courses, plus two (2) years of related experience in data reduction and analysis, or any equivalent
combination of relevant education and experience for a total of four (4)years.
Technical or Associate Degree from an accredited technical institution or college in mechanical engineering/design.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET accreditation) is preferred.
Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas well, both oral and in writing.
Attitude of taking independent initiative, exhibiting creative problem-solving, eagerness to learn, while remaining dedicated to teamwork required.
Knowledge of all aspects of mechanical systems, including related Codes and Standards defined by ASME, ASHRAE, and the International Code Council.
8 years or more experience in a Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing design environment is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to solve problems and communicate effectively to all key personnel, manage time efficiently, and produce correct designs within budgeted time.
Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD is mandatory.
Office Environment. (80%)
Test/Industrial Environment – May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals and industrial facilities. Travel between facilities and test sites is required. (10%)
Must have sufficient mobility to enter into confined spaces, crawl into or onto various assemblies while maintaining a clear vision of safety is required. Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants and the like. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions (20%). Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs.
