Jacobs has partnered with NASA to support space flight programs for more than 40 years. While the majority of work is directly in support of Langley Research Center (LaRC), other industry partners and Government agencies may be supported at remote sites as directed by the Contracting Officer (CO). The Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering (CMOE) contract comprises of three major categories of work – operations, maintenance, and engineering (OME).

Responsibilities:

This position is for Apprentice applicants only .

The successful candidate will join a team to operate and maintain instrument/electrical systems/equipment in support of wind tunnels at NASA LaRC safely, effectively, and efficiently. Shall follow safety policies and procedures and perform all work according to existing policies and procedures while maintaining a high standard of quality and workmanship in performing the duties.

Here’s what you’ll need :

U.S. Citizenship required. High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Desire to learn more in the STEM fields outside of the typical classroom setting, with hands on training, mentoring, and instruction.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Office Environment (20%). Test/Industrial Environment – May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, high energy sources, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals, and industrial facilities. (75%)

Travel between facilities and during test operations may be required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment and chemical operations (5%)

Physical Requirements

Must have sufficient mobility to enter confined spaces, crawl into or onto various assemblies while maintaining a clear vision of safety is required (50%). Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants, and the like (20%). Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs (30%).

Equipment and Machines

Facility operations display/keyboards/mechanical/electrical control/HMI, standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.) (30%)

Operate appropriate equipment; devices, fabricates and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products, such as industrial equipment and machinery, power equipment, servo systems, machine tools, and measuring instruments. Set up and conducts tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development, standardization and quality control.

Regular attendance mandatory (100%)

Potential for overtime/work outside normal schedule required (5%)

Other Essential Functions

U.S. Citizenship required. A valid form of identification is required. A driver’s license is not required. Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required. Employees will exercise diligence when developing a Safe Plan of Action (SPA) for each task performed. Your SPA is a Company provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents, accidents, and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you are required to use.
