Jacobshas partnered with NASA to support space flight programs for more than 40years. While the majority of work is directly in support of LaRC, otherindustry partners and Government agencies may be supported at remote sites asdirected by the Contracting Officer (CO). The Center Maintenance, Operations,and Engineering (CMOE) contract comprises of three major categories of work –operations, maintenance, and engineering (OME), as described below.

  • Maintenance – Research and institutional facility maintenance includes, butnot limited to, preventive maintenance, trouble calls, repairs, ReliabilityCentered Maintenance (RCM), Facility Condition Assessment (FCA), andmaintenance/operation of central utilities (e.g., electrical powerdistribution, potable water, storm water drainage)

  • Operations – FacilitiesOperations support includes, but not limited to, wind tunnels, laboratories,and test stands testing, instrumentation calibration/repair; plant andutilities (e.g., high pressure air, Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) and Steam Plant);technology development and administration, including, but not limited to,Facility Automation Systems (FAS) and Data Acquisition Systems (DAS)

  • Engineering – Facility engineering includes, but not limited to, engineeringstudies, design, construction, construction management, configurationmanagement, tactical engineering, pressure system recertification, projectmanagement/planning support.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will join a team to safely, effectively, and efficientlyoperate and maintain mechanical systems/equipment in support of wind tunnels atNASA LaRC. Shall follow safety policies and procedures and perform all workaccording to existing policies and procedures while maintaining a high standardof quality and workmanship in performing the duties. Working knowledge ofsafety practices common to industry including FOD control and LOTO (OSHALockout/Tagout program) is an added advantage. Experience in operating andmaintaining rotating machinery, hydraulic and pneumatic system, pumps, valvesand cooling water systems is desirable. Other equipment operated on includesbut is not limited to, industrial forklifts, man-lifts and cranes. Will performpreventive maintenance on, inspection of, and operate equipment per documentedprocedures. Must be able to read relevant technical drawings andspecifications. Relevant military training or aviation maintenance training isa plus

Qualifications

U.S.Citizenship required. Two years of college with courses related to mechanicalengineering technology or other related engineering courses includingmathematics and science, or completion of a trade school verified bycertificate of completion, plus two years of relevant experience, or anyequivalent combination of relevant education and experience for a total of twoyears.

Essential Functions:

Work Environment

Office Environment (20%). Test/Industrial Environment - May be exposed to areasof high noise levels, high energy sources, hazardous propellants, explosives,chemicals and industrial facilities.(75%)

Travel between facilities and during test operations may be required and maybring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment and chemicaloperations (5%)

Physical Requirements:

Must have sufficient mobility to enter into confined spaces, crawl into or ontovarious assemblies while maintaining a clear vision of safety is required.Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants andthe like. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions.Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as wellas climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs.

Equipment and Machines:

Facility operations display/keyboards/mechanical/electrical control/HMI,standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.) (30%)

Operate appropriate equipment; devices, fabricates and assembles new ormodified mechanical components or assemblies for products, such as industrialequipment and machinery, power equipment, servo systems, machine tools, andmeasuring instruments. Sets up and conducts tests of complete units andcomponents under operational conditions to investigate design proposals forimproving equipment performance or other factors, or to obtain data fordevelopment, standardization and quality control.

Regular attendance mandatory (100%)

Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (10%)

U.S. Citizenship required. Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must putforward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotesteamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for theposition and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work withindividuals at all levels of the company and the client. Must be able to obtainand maintain a security clearance as required. Employees will exercisediligence when developing a Safe Plan of Action (SPA) for each task performed.Your SPA is a Company provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents,accidents, and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you arerequired to use. A valid driver’s license is required.
