Jacobs has partneredwith NASA to support space flight programs for more than 40 years. While themajority of work is directly in support of LaRC, other industry partners andGovernment agencies may be supported at remote sites as directed by the ContractingOfficer (CO). The Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering (CMOE)contract comprises of three major categories of work – operations, maintenance,and engineering (OME), as described below.

  • Maintenance – Research andinstitutional facility maintenance includes, but not limited to, preventivemaintenance, trouble calls, repairs, Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM),Facility Condition Assessment (FCA), and maintenance/operation of centralutilities (e.g., electrical power distribution, potable water, storm waterdrainage)

  • Operations – Facilities Operations support includes, but not limitedto, wind tunnels, laboratories, and test stands testing, instrumentationcalibration/repair; plant and utilities (e.g., high pressure air, LiquidNitrogen (LN2) and Steam Plant); technology development and administration,including, but not limited to, Facility Automation Systems (FAS) and DataAcquisition Systems (DAS)

  • Engineering – Facility engineering includes, but notlimited to, engineering studies, design, construction, construction management,configuration management, tactical engineering, pressure systemrecertification, project management/planning support.

Responsibilities:

The successfulcandidate will join a team to safely, effectively, and efficiently operate andmaintain mechanical systems in NASA LaRC wind tunnels, liquid nitrogen plant,and/or other facilities. Must follow safety policies and proceduresand perform all work according to policies and procedures while maintaining a highstandard of quality and workmanship in performance of all duties. Workingknowledge of safety practices common to industry including FOD control and LOTOis beneficial. Experience with operation and maintenance of rotating machinery,hydraulic and pneumatic system, pumps, valves, cooling water systems, andproduction, transfer, and storage of cryogenic liquids is desirable. Willperform preventive maintenance on, inspection of, and operate equipment perdocumented procedures. Must be able to read relevant technical drawings andspecifications. Assembles wind tunnel models for testing; installs, routes, andcalibrates instrumentation. Operates other equipment including, but not limitedto: industrial forklifts, man-lifts, and cranes. Must be able to climb ladders andsteps, enter and work in confined spaces, lift a minimum of 35 lbs., andwilling to work all shifts and overtime. Must have good communicationskills, be detail-oriented, able to work with a team, and have goodproblem-solving skills. Relevant military training, technical school, oraviation maintenance is a plus.

Qualifications

U.S. Citizenshiprequired. Two (2) years of college with courses in engineering, mathematics orrelated engineering courses, plus two (2) years relevant mechanical experienceor any equivalent combination of relevant education and training that can bedocumented by a certificate or diploma from a reputable organization, school,or trade school program and experience for a total of four (4) years. Knowledgeof OSHA Lockout/Tagout program is preferred.

Work Environment:

Office environment.(10%). Test/Industrial Environment – May be exposed to areas of high noiselevels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals and industrial facilities.(85%)

Travel betweenfacilities and test operations may be required and may bring exposure to loudnoise and potentially hazardous equipment and chemical operations. (5%)

Physical Requirements:

Must have sufficient mobility to enter into confined spaces, crawl into or ontovarious assemblies while maintaining a clear vision of safety is required.Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants andthe like. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions.Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as wellas climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs.

Equipment and Machines:

Facility operations display/keyboards/mechanical/electrical control/HMI.Machine, power, and hand tools. Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax,copier, etc.) (30%)

Attendance:

Regular attendance mandatory (100%)

Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (<20%)

Travel required (<<5%)

Other Essential Functions:

U.S. Citizenship required. Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must putforward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotesteamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for theposition and must not impose a safety/risk hazard to the employee or others.The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work withindividuals at all levels of the company and the client. Must be able to obtainand maintain a security clearance as required. A valid driver’s license isrequired.
