Jacobs has partnered with NASA to support space flightprograms for more than 40 years. While the majority of work is directly insupport of LaRC, other industry partners and Government agencies may besupported at remote sites as directed by the Contracting Officer (CO). TheCenter Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering (CMOE) contract comprises ofthree major categories of work – operations, maintenance, and engineering(OME). A brief description of each category is: Maintenance – Research andinstitutional facility maintenance includes, but not limited to, preventivemaintenance, trouble calls, repairs, Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM),Facility Condition Assessment (FCA), and maintenance/operation of centralutilities (e.g., electrical power distribution, potable water, storm waterdrainage)

  • Operations – Facilities Operations support includes, but not limitedto, wind tunnels, laboratories, and test stands testing, instrumentationcalibration/repair; plant and utilities (e.g., high pressure air, Liquid Nitrogen(LN2) and Steam Plant); technology development and administration, including,but not limited to, Facility Automation Systems (FAS) and Data AcquisitionSystems (DAS)

  • Engineering – Facility engineering includes, but not limited to,engineering studies, design, construction, construction management,configuration management, tactical engineering, pressure systemrecertification, project management/planning support.

Responsibilities:

  • Under limited supervision specify and provide hardware and software solutions for technical and scientific research and operations testing for NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC).

  • Develop custom hardware and software products with technical documentation for distributed and networked research data acquisition systems using configuration managed software code base.

  • Assist technical staff on center with software and hardware requirements specification and implementation estimates.

  • Provide project team leadership for data acquisition system (DAS) enhancement projects and new DAS implementation projects.

  • Maintain existing DAS and Video acquisition systems on center for the operation of the wind tunnel and test stand research testing.

Qualifications

U.S.Citizenship required.BS degree in a computer or system science,engineering, or mathematicsdiscipline froman accredited college or university and eight (8) to twelve (12) years ofprogressive, relevant experience, or a MS degree in a computer or system sciencediscipline and seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressive experience, or aPh.D. degree in a computer or system science discipline and two (2) to five (5)years or progressive experience. The ability to obtain and maintain a SecretSecurity clearance.

Experience with various Unix / Linux platformsand Microsoft OSs; and demonstrated 5 year or greater relevant experience in any of the following specific programming languages; LabVIEW, MATLAB, C, C , or Python. A strong mathematics, mechanical or electricalbackground will be considered favorably. Experience with aeronautics,rotorcraft dynamics, and/or vibration analysis is also desired. Skilled in theuse of Microsoft Office products is required.

Required skills/experience:

  • Demonstrated technical expertise in engineering systems design and analysis.

  • Minimum of 8-12 years software programming experience in anyof the following languages LabVIEW, MATLAB, FORTRAN, C, C , C#, or Python using Microsoft Visual Studio or Qt development environments.

  • Demonstrated experience in real-time and event driven software development with custom hardware device interfaces.

  • Experience with Open Source software integration for custom hardware and software projects.

  • Demonstrated software project and system documentation development experience for requirements, design, acceptance testing and user guides.

  • Minimum of 8-12 years of software programming experience on Windows or Linux/Unix operating systems experience a plus.

  • Working Knowledge of distributed network protocols and transport mechanisms TCP/IP, UDP, RPC, DCOM and OPC.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Office Environment 90%

An office or Control Room environment is thetypical work area. Project implementations or troubleshooting events will be inan industrial or laboratory environment. Test/Industrial Environment-may beexposed to areas of high voltage, high noise levels, hazardous propellants,explosives, chemicals, and industrial facilities (10%). Travel to otherbuildings on-site or nearby off-site facilities will be required and may bringexposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment operation (10%).Appropriate PPE and training will be provided.

PhysicalRequirements:

Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants andthe like (20%). Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for allconditions.

Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as wellas climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs with/without accomodation (100%)
