About the Opportunity

Jacobs is currently recruiting for a Radiation Protection Adviser, to work across a range of projects from small non-nuclear through to large scale nuclear decommissioning projects. The role also offers the opportunity to apply this core knowledge to other closely related technical areas such as dose assessment modelling, shielding, waste management and characterisation, transport of radioactive materials and radiation protection instrumentation. Jacobs hold a diverse portfolio of projects and frameworks, which provide an excellent opportunity for career development.

We will also provide an excellent opportunity for an RPA to develop and gain experience in the nuclear industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Acting as the technical lead on projects, liaising with clients, regulatory bodies and other stakeholders to ensure needs are met and clients are satisfied.

  • Providing radiation protection advice and support, defining and monitoring standards and behaviour

  • Development and delivery of specialist radiation protection training

  • Carrying out audits (internal and external) and recommending corrective action and improvements

  • Writing of local rules / radiation risk assessments and other suitable documentation for both internal and external clients.

  • Critically reviewing, analysing and summarising data in order to draw conclusions and make recommendations to clients in the form of a report and to check the work of others

  • Undertaking practical radiological and environmental assessments

  • Coaching and mentoring staff to ensure continued professional development, reviewing portfolio and supporting applications to the RPA2000 scheme

  • Developing business capability through innovation, excellence in delivery, representation at industry forums and technical development

  • Supporting the corporate radiation protection body to ensure Jacobs continued compliance and strong relationships with key regulators

  • Working with the Operations Manager to grow the Business through client liaison, marketing, developing key client relationships, prospect management and tendering

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Experienced professional with several years’ experience of Health Physics including operational support and advising on compliance with current legislation.

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in science or mathematics or Chartered Profession

  • RPA 2000 accreditation

  • Valid UK driving license

  • The ability to write well-structured reports that present clear argument with a sound basis for recommendations

  • The ability to confidently communicate with a wide range of staff and managers on radiation protection issues and influence decision making.

  • A self-starter who is motivated, well organised, able to complete tasks to agreed deadlines.
