Transportation Construction Project Engineer

Reporting directly to the Construction Manager, this position is site based. Responsibilities include direct contact and overview of the General Contractor and their sub-contractors to ensure a high level of quality and safety is maintained as required by both Jacobs and our client. This is a client facing position. Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Oversee that the project is constructed and documented in accordance with the contract documents and good engineering practices

  • Provide technical support to Construction Managers

  • Attend client program meetings as needed

  • A safety leader through example, words, and compliance

  • Conduct site observation inspections and oversee construction quality assurance

  • Perform review of pre-construction asset condition surveys in advance of construction

  • Provide design review support, planning sessions, document and report development, research and coordination with the client, and submittal and plan reviews

  • Administrate the Independent Assurance/Independent Verification (IA/IV) engineering field support services program per client standards, including trip reports, technical review and report development, and resolution meetings

  • Review and comment on proposed Field Design Changes, including coordination with design staff and tracking of implementation

  • Monitor, review, resolve, and report IA/IV issues such as non-conformance reports, variance requests, and deficiency notices

  • Monitor, track, review and report shop drawing submissions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is required

  • EIT certification preferred

  • Experience with road and bridge construction preferred

  • Experience on VDOT projects preferred

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite of tools and document management software such as SharePoint or ProjectWise preferred

  • Experience with mobile construction management software such as PlanGrid a plus
