Job Description ( describe the day-to-day ):
Provide technical assistance to project managers to best fulfill customers’ requests.
Design, test, and inspect the Customer’s computer data communications systems. These systems include wide area networks (WANs), and local area networks (LANs), and internets.
Analyze and organize the corresponding hardware and software combined solutions through network modeling and planning.
Analyze customer requirements and determine the best technical solution with specifications of voice/telephony components and system integration techniques to satisfy the requirements for complex design and technology activities. These activities consist of voice/telephony distribution, teleconferencing design and test efforts.
The employee has full discretion and independent judgement as it relates to their project. As long as he remains within budget and scope the manager of the engineering team has full autonomy as it relates to the team and its resources. Outside of the project framework the employee does not have approving authority for major monetary decisions.
Adjust network sizes to meet volume or capacity demands
Coordinate network operations, maintenance, repairs, or upgrades
Design, build, or operate equipment configuration prototypes, including network hardware, software, servers, or server operation systems
Determine specific network hardware or software requirements, such as platforms, interfaces, bandwidths, or routine schemas
Develop and implement solutions for network problems
Develop conceptual, logical, or physical network designs
Estimate time and materials needed to complete projects
Evaluate network designs to determine if requirements are met efficiently and effectively
Participate in network technology upgrade or expansion projects, including installation of hardware and software and integration testing
Prepare detailed network specifications, including diagrams, charts, equipment configurations, and recommended technologies
Communicate with vendors to gather information about products, to alert them to future needs, to resolve problems, or to address systems maintenance issues
Coordinate installation of new equipment
Coordinate network or design activities with designers of associated networks
Develop or maintain project-reporting systems
Develop disaster recovery plans
Develop network related documentation
Explain design specifications to integration or test engineers
Develop plans or budgets for network equipment replacement
Prepare design presentations and proposals for staff or customers
Use network computer-aided design (CAD) software packages to optimize network designs
Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Typically employees sit comfortably to do their work, interspersed by brief periods of standing, walking, bending, carrying papers and books, and extensive periods requiring the use of computer terminals to accomplish work objectives.
General Office environment. The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers.
Equipment & Machines:
General office equipment including PC/laptop, Fax, Copiers, Shredder, Printers, Telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.
Attendance is critical at all times. Must be able to work a 40-hour workweek, normally Monday through Friday. However, times and days may vary depending on business requirements. Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situation occur.
Customer and Personal Service:
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Other Essential Functions/Characteristics:
An Information Technology Generalist proficient in many facets of information technology requirements. The candidate should possess general business knowledge and soft-skills allowing them to be adaptable in a wide array of work environments. The candidate should have the willingness to participate in these type of activities when called upon to do so.
Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
Must be well-organized with the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously. Must work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must take and pass a drug test and background check as well as a motor vehicle records check and DOT Physical
Must be willing to travel as needed
Must be able to interface with individuals at all levels of the organization both verbally and in writing
Proficiency in the use of MS Office product suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, SharePoint)
Advanced knowledge the customer and the inner workings of the organization are critical to this position.
Must pay attention to detail and remain alert at all times.
Must be able to maintain regular, reliable attendance and ensure on time daily arrival
This position requires the execution of good engineering practices that detail the overall system architecture, detailed line (with breakdown of signal and test point values) and rack elevation drawings and to/from cable list.
Advanced understanding of Avaya voice systems including Communications Manager (CM) based systems, IP Office, Aura System Manager and Session Manager.
Strong knowledge of Avaya based adjunct systems including Avaya Aura Conferencing (AAC), Avaya Aura Messaging (AAM), Avaya Aura Contact Center (AACC) and Avaya Elite Call Center.
Good understanding of Cisco routing and switching and related services in support of voice services including Voice VLANs, DHCP scopes, Quality of Service (QOS), ACLs,and dynamic routing
Ability to perform (advanced level) configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of voice systems and related networking systems.
Ability, training and actual work experience with the specific computer language, systems, and/or technology is significantly more important than the number of years of experience. This is especially true with emerging technologies.
Experience with Cat5, Cat6, Fiber, Network Switches, and patch panels, AURA
Thorough knowledge of the TCP IP protocol suite, IP subnets and masking, and routing protocols.
Thorough knowledge of new network architectures and implementation of networked computer systems emphasizing multiple platform environments.
Considerable knowledge of network operating systems.
Considerable knowledge of bandwidth application requirements, routing through network devices or public network extensions.
