About the Opportunity

The Section Leader is a management and leadership role based in Hobart and reporting to the Director of Operations Tasmania, the purpose of the role is to lead and manage the Planning & Investigation section, which comprises a diverse team of Surveyors, GIS practitioners & Civil/Structural Design Drafters. The key focus of the team is delivering projects and providing high quality technical solutions for a range of public and private clients in a range of sectors including transport, infrastructure, water, environment and power & energy.

The focus of the role is primarily associated with people leadership and operational management; however it may also include project management or discipline Leadership on projects as required, and depending on the technical qualifications and experience of the applicant

Roles include:

  • Promoting a culture of safety and quality within the Section

  • Lead and contribute to strong business performance outcomes

  • Work to maximise opportunities for Planning & Investigation with external clients and other Jacobs’ operations

  • Responsible for section performance against utilisation and productivity targets

  • Performance and Career Management

  • Balance resources; maximise resources and performance to meet client and project pipeline expectations

  • Coach and mentor staff with an aim to supporting professional development

  • Provide technical input and review of outputs

  • Deliver high quality solutions that meet client expectations

  • Drive successful delivery of projects on time and to budget

About you

Skills, abilities & experience required:

  • Strong leadership skills including a strategic focus to lead the growth of a Planning & Investigation practice

  • Ideally experienced working with government and major infrastructure projects

  • Relevant tertiary qualification

  • Previous technical experience in Environmental, Town Planning, Drafting or Spatial is an advantage

  • Demonstrated experience in managing a large and diverse team covering multiple technical disciplines

  • Ability to articulate a clear direction

  • Previous operations management experience including profitability, scope growth, commercial management, corporate compliance and safety/risk management
