We have the unique and significant role to partner with NASA at Johnson Space Center (JSC), to be part of every human spaceflight program – the International Space Station (ISS), NASA’s Orion spacecraft, which will carry astronauts into deep space, and Gateway, the orbiting platform providing the home for astronauts to work and travel back and forth to the moon’s surface, and serving as the platform for deep space exploration. From critical systems on the ISS to enable astronauts to live and work in space; to performing advanced development for systems leading to deep space exploration; to being part of the foundation for Gateway.
We also partner with NASA at JSC, the only NASA center in the United States to curate all astromaterial samples returned from exploration missions, to perform curation services, orbital debris analysis, and basic research to further humankind’s understanding of the origins of our solar system.

We are currently in need of an Advanced Mission Design Engineer to join our team with Oceaneering Space Systems, a JETS teammate company. Do you have the following skills?
As an Advanced Mission Design Engineer you will:
Assist with software development and scripting of NASA’s Copernicus trajectory optimization tool and related applications. Specific tasks will include:
Addition of new features and algorithms requested by the NASA customer.
Refactoring and improvements to the architecture for program efficiency.
Integration with other trajectory software and tools.
General program maintenance and bug fixes.
Regression testing and documentation.
Provide trajectory products supporting spacecraft mission design and analysis for advanced Orion crewed missions such as Artemis 1-3 and related missions:
Perform trajectory optimization runs to characterize vehicle performance and mission availability for a variety of scenarios.
Develop, integrate, and test new algorithms for evaluation of vehicle and mission performance.
Perform other duties as required.

BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school.
Demonstrated capability to independently devise solutions to complex engineering problems by their own efforts and by soliciting inputs from other technical experts.
Expertise in orbital mechanics and/or spacecraft mission design.
Experience in programming and scripting languages such as modern Fortran, Python, and/or C .
Experience working in a team environment.
MS in Aerospace Engineering.
Expertise in spacecraft trajectory optimization, including use of software tools such as Copernicus, GMAT, MONTE, STK, or FreeFlyer.
Experience in spacecraft guidance, navigation, control algorithms and software.
Experience in high performance computing, including Message Passing Interface (MPI) or Coarrays, and SLURM.

Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs (5% of time).

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
