We are looking for an ARGOS-AXES Build Support to join our team with Oceaneering Space Systems , a JETS teammate company. Do you have the following skills?

ARGOS-AXES Build Support will provide mechanical build and test set-up support for the Active Response Gravity Offload System (ARGOS), a reduced gravity simulator robot, and its next generation ARGOS exploration EVA Simulator (AXES). Both systems perform human-in-the-loop testing. The Build Support role is part of a greater team, so the ability to work and communicate well with others is required.

Typical tasks include:

  • Work in a team environment

  • Setup, reconfigure, and clean up test areas

  • Responsible for recurring test set-up and tear-down activities

  • Ensure that work and test areas remain neat, orderly, and safe during all phases of testing (before, during, after)

  • Operate forklift and man-lift equipment in the performance of work assignments as required

  • Operate overhead crane and other material handling equipment

  • Work at elevated locations using systems/equipment such as ladders, man-lifts, scaffolding other work platforms

  • Operate standard equipment and/or instruments including hand-held power tools and manual (i.e. non-CNC) machine shop tools (i.e. lathes, drill press, mills, band saw, etc.)

  • Proficient use of hand-tools (i.e. screw drivers, ratchets, wrenches, rivet tools, etc.)

  • Compliance with machine shop safety protocols

  • Adhere to written and standardized operating procedures, policies, and protocols for use of equipment

  • Read and interpret drawings

  • Perform maintenance and operation of mechanical systems in assigned work areas, including research, documentation, acquiring parts, repairing, and calibration of devices and systems

  • Visualize and solve practical problems

  • Determine and develop methods, procedures, and laboratory apparatus required to fulfill assignments and achieve prescribed objectives

  • Fabricate, modify, and assemble various complex hardware and systems from engineer drawings, sketches, or verbal and written instructions

  • Identify and correct potential hazards and/or unsafe acts/conditions at the work site

  • Perform other duties as required

With longer-term tenure on the team, there is a potential for this role to expand to include the following Test Operator duties:

  • Startup and shutdown the system following the respective checklists

  • Be proficient with using a computer and following a computerized checklist

  • Monitor key performance indicators during tests to ensure test subjects’ safety

  • Learn and perform emergency procedures when required

  • Be vigilant for events or conditions that require immediate action to stop a test

  • Assist in preparation of test procedures, test preparation sheets, discrepancy report disposition, unscheduled maintenance order reports, operational servicing reports, breadboard or developmental equipment sketches, and test setup or test article jig designs

  • Maintain equipment as necessary, including preventive maintenance and repairs or replacement of parts

  • AED/CPR Certification, or the ability to obtain certification

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  • Associate technical degree or two (2) years of college with courses in engineering or associated disciplines, and twelve (12) years of related experience. A BS degree in Industrial Technology, Industrial Management or Math with ten (10) years of related experience will also be acceptable

  • Previous experience operating forklifts, cranes, manlifts, and working on elevated surfaces is required.

  • Certified Forklift Operator, or the ability to obtain certifications

  • Certified Crane Operator, or the ability to obtain certification

  • Elevated Work Certification, or the ability to obtain certification

  • Man Lift Certification, or the ability to obtain certification

  • Specialized and extensive knowledge of engineering principles gained through long and varied work experience in field of specialty

  • General computer and typing skills

  • Great communication with other team members

  • Following set procedures and written/verbal instructions

  • The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Standing/sitting/kneeling/crouching

  • Applying basic math skills

  • Daily work in a warehouse or lab environment

  • Exposure to uneven ground levels, high or low elevations, confined areas, various noise levels caused by test environment, power tools, machinery, equipment, etc.

Preferences

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Can-do mindset

  • Critical thinking

  • Ability to lift to 45 pounds from the ground level, waist level and overhead

  • Carrying up to 25 pounds for 20 yards

  • Intermediate level of proficiency in metal fabrication and welding

  • Knowledge and experience with electrical systems

  • Knowledge and experience with pressure systems

  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
