As the onsite Construction Engineer/Construction Manager you will provide oversite, leadership, and mentorship to our team performing construction engineering and inspection (CEI) services on highway/bridge projects in Houston, Texas as well as in Corpus Christi, Beaumont or Lufkin, Texas. The projects include roadway grading, paving, and bridge construction as well as other transportation and roadway related construction tasks.

  • In this role you will interact directly with the owner and contractor, assist with various inspections and construction engineering / administrative tasks

  • Will supervise engineer and owner inspectors and construction management professionals.

  • Will have the opportunity serve as the primary liaison with the client’s construction engineering and operations staff, the general contractor, and the design engineer(s).

  • Working with the design engineer(s) you will help respond to clarifications, perform technical submittal reviews, assess any change orders and similar activities, and ensure the orderly, efficient and timely completion of the project scope in accordance with requirements specified in the contract documents.

  • Working with other members of our team you will also demonstrate effective risk management and mitigation practices through proper risk identification, assessment, tracking and communication.

  • Following this assignment, our intent is for a successful candidate to continue to help our Houston team and/or other Texas CEI teams identify or complete additional CEI assignments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or construction management discipline is preferred

  • At least 10 plus years Project Construction PM or Deputy Area Engineer or Area Engineer experience working with Texas Department of Transportation

  • Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred

  • Experience with owner and contractor interactions

  • Experience with transportation highway/bridge construction

  • Knowledge and experience with construction scheduling

  • Must possess the physical ability to move around an active construction site

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Familiarity with SiteManager software

  • Must have developed the following skills; engineering knowledge, leadership, oral and written communication skills, planning, teamwork, decision making, judgment and problem solving

  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured under our motor vehicle policy

Essential Functions:

Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. No foot controls necessary. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be occasional travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
