We have the unique and significant role to partner with NASA at Johnson Space Center (JSC), to be part of every human spaceflight program – the International Space Station (ISS), NASA’s Orion spacecraft, which will carry astronauts into deep space, and Gateway, the orbiting platform providing the home for astronauts to work and travel back and forth to the moon’s surface, and serving as the platform for deep space exploration. From critical systems on the ISS to enable astronauts to live and work in space; to performing advanced development for systems leading to deep space exploration; to being part of the foundation for Gateway.
We also partner with NASA at JSC, the only NASA center in the United States to curate all astromaterial samples returned from exploration missions, to perform curation services, orbital debris analysis, and basic research to further humankind’s understanding of the origins of our solar system.

We are currently in need of a Design Management Lead to join our team. Do you have the following skills?
The Design Management Lead will:
Report directly to the Design andAnalysis Group Manager. This position is responsible for the direct oversightof approximately 150 people involved in various aspects of Mechanical SystemDesign and Development across and in support of several NASA EngineeringDivisions.
Support routine reviews for cost,schedule, risk management, overall design project health, progress anddeliverable adherence.
Work with design task leads todrive, track and maintain efficient task performance.
Work with team to maintain activerelated risk management (technical, cost, and schedule) on all associatedtasks.
Communicate design status to GroupManager, Section Managers and Chief Engineers.
Work with Chief Engineers and otherQuick Response Team members to solve various design and development challenges.
Work with colleagues to coordinateissue resolution across multiple JETS organizations which could include sourcelimitations, task execution challenges, process breakdowns, etc.
Work with Section Mangers, ChiefEngineers and Design Leads to generate and review basis of estimates (BOE's)for various design and analysis tasks.
Provide efficient response to projects,removing roadblocks to ensure project success and customer satisfaction.
Work as a Technical Lead as requiredto supplement or replace current design lead function.
Perform other duties as required.
This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements and business needs, wereserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this positionhas been advertised.
Bachelor's degree in science orengineering from an accredited University and ten (10) years of direct engineeringexperience, or a Master's degree from an accredited University and eight (8)years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. and four (4) years of directengineering experience.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience withNASA/JSC Mechanical flight intravehicular and extravehicular hardwaredevelopment processes.
Familiarity with NASA Work InstructionEA-023, along with flight hardware certification and other flight hardwareprocesses.
Familiarity with Mechanical Designworkflows and processes for the Spaceflight Hardware design and development.
Previous project management experience.
Prior Experience leading or managinga team of design engineers for a given project.
Excellent oral and written communicationand organizational skills with the ability to work in a team environment and ahistory of effectively interacting with senior managers at all levels.
Experience planning and establishingwork priorities.
Proficient in MS Office programs,particularly MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
Bachelor's degree in Science orEngineering Disciplines.
Familiarity with JSC EngineeringDrawing System Manual (JPR 8500).
Prior experience with a wide rangeof technical approaches and theory for the mechanical design discipline.
