Our team is in search of an experienced Design Manager to support the planning, design, and construction of new terminal facilities and airfield projects in one of the world’s busiest aviation markets. The TX-OK region includes multi-billion-dollar airport capital redevelopment programs that must be planned and designed so impacts on the existing airport operations do not have adverse impacts on passengers and aircraft.

You’ll report directly to the TX-OK Aviation Group Lead and will have daily contact with the client, design teams and stakeholders as well as the Jacobs network of Aviation Subject Matter Experts. This position allows for the opportunity to be a major contributor to the growth of one of the world’s most exciting markets. The selected individual will be based in the TX-OK region, with hybrid work environment between home office, the closest Jacobs office and client-driven travel for projects as required.

In this role, the Design Manager will preform architectural and engineering tasks, provide excellent client service, manage quality, and perform in a team environment. This role supports our growing TX-OK aviation practice. The Project Manager will:

  • Focus on the aviation market at major airports in the Southcentral region

  • Lead the ongoing progress of multiple projects, including the coordination of the project with the client, subconsultants, and other outside agencies as needed

  • Plan and conduct work requiring evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation/ modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria

  • Use advanced techniques to modify and extend architectural and engineering theories, precepts and practices

  • Resolve a variety of complex problems, (i.e. conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements) and develop resilient solutions

  • Build client business opportunities and support project proposal teams

  • Supervise the design tasks and drive the ongoing progress of a project, including the coordination of the project with the client, City, State, and County officials, and other outside agencies as needed

  • Lead, coordinate and review the work of less experienced architects, engineers and/or technical support personnel assigned to the project

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the quality of architectural and engineering work performed, client service, utilization of staff, marketing, office reputation, contract management, billing collection, and project profitability for Aviation projects

  • Performs work with the preparation of building design using appropriate federal, state, local or industry standards at both conceptual and final design levels

  • Coordination with all complimentary disciplines (architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing), technical preparation and supervision of building design tasks, perform plan quality reviews, participate in value engineering studies

  • Maintains positive relationships with current and potential clients

  • Represents Jacobs at meetings, presentations, and project interviews

  • Reviews plans, prepares, or reviews technical specifications, contract documents, and fee estimates

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Civil, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field of study

  • Licensed as an Architect or Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Texas

  • Demonstrable experience working in and leading multi-disciplinary teams (i.e. delegating tasks, mentoring junior engineers, subject-matter expert, etc.)

  • Experience managing multiple types of airport projects and large consultant/subconsultant teams: Terminal, landside, airfield from planning/programming to final design, construction, and operations

  • Unique Knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars, AIP Handbook, FAA Reimbursable Agreements, etc.
