We have an exciting opportunity for a Fluids Systems Mechanical Test Engineer join the team with our Operations & Test Division.
The Fluids Systems Mechanical Test Engineer will:
Support Johnson Space Center's activities on the International Space Station and space exploration.
Work in a team environment to analyze requirements from the customer and develop design solutions.
Design, develop, test, handle implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems.
Design unique tests fixtures and methods for various test programs.
Develop required system documentation such as procedures and hazard analyses.
Maintain the high level of technical excellence for all tasks to ensure the highest quality of technical products including test setups, test operations, development setups, development operations, documentation generation, execution and close out.
Perform engineering design evaluations.
Perform extensive testing on space hardware.
Prepare and present designs at various design reviews using MS Word and PowerPoint.
Produce engineering drawings conforming to applicable standards.
Perform dimensional fit analysis including thermal effects.
Perform functional analyses, when applicable, and sizing structural analyses.
Prepare and present designs at various design reviews using MS Word and PowerPoint.
Produce other required design documentation.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Gathering and documenting test requirements.
Authorizing test preparation plan that includes requirements, cost and schedule.
Overseeing test preparation with test facility engineering.
Leading fuel cell test operations.
Reviewing and presenting test data to fuel cell test team.
Identifying potential safety risks and over-see implementation of hazard mitigation.
Identifying technical risks and oversee implementation of mitigation.
Participate in fuel test planning and technical review meetings within JSC and with other NASA centers.
Understand fuel cell membrane electrode assembly fabrication and in situ electrochemical diagnostics.
Perform other duties required.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Requisition Qualifications:
This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.
Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering in the field or in a related area.
Must have the ability to produce drawings, perform dimensional fit tolerance analysis, including thermal effects and to support design with standard hand calculations for fit, function, and structural strength.
Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience using solid modeling CAD software.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must have working knowledge of machine shop processes and familiarization with the structural and thermal analysis process in development of hardware.
Must have experience with pressure, thermal, vacuum systems.
Must have knowledge of fluid, pneumatic, and hydrostatic systems.
Must have knowledge of fluid system and components. This includes basic fluid component types and functions as well as operation of gaseous oxygen and hydrogen systems.
Requisition Preferences:
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience designing and testing hardware.
Knowledgeable in high pressure mechanical systems and fuel cells.
Project management experience.

Essential Functions
Work Environment
Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs (5% of time).

Attendance
Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
