We have an exciting opportunity for a Group Manager for Science Infrastructure in our Science & Exploration division.

As the Group Manager for Science Infrastructure, you will:

  • Provide effective managerial and technical leadership to a team providing facility engineering, facility and capability development, maintenance and operations, software and web development, server administration, desktop support, IT purchasing and security, and technical and science services to the NASA Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science Division (ARES/XI)

  • Facilitate integration of facility engineering, safety, technical operations and IT across Curation, Research, Exploration Science, Hypervelocity impact and orbital debris offices in ARES/XI

  • Coordinate the creation and revision of task orders, provide monthly estimates and reports, coordinate with Science & Exploration Department business function

  • Lead recruiting and hiring efforts for the Group and ensure all efforts are adequately staffed across multiple sections

  • Perform routine project reviews for cost, schedule, risk management, and deliverable adherence

  • Communicate project status to senior management and NASA

  • Approve timecards and travel

  • Document and perform personnel performance reviews

  • Establish a framework and oversight for technical correctness on all work performed by section

  • Perform other duties as required

Here’s what you’ll need :

Requisition Qualifications:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  • Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering and may be expected to have a related master's degree and normally possess 10-15 years of related experience

  • 10 years of experience in management, science operations or science infrastructure

  • Experience leading diverse teams of engineers, technicians, or information technologists

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a history of effectively interacting with senior managers at all levels

Requisition Preferences:

  • BS degree from an accredited science school and a minimum of fourteen (14) years direct experience, or a MS degree from an accredited school and twelve (12) years of direct experience, or Ph.D. and nine (9) years direct experience

  • ​Experience working in the NASA Environment

  • Experience managing hardware and technology development projects

  • Project Management experience for hardware or facility development projects​

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
