We have the unique and significant role to partner with NASA at Johnson Space Center (JSC), to be part of every human spaceflight program – the International Space Station (ISS), NASA’s Orion spacecraft, which will carry astronauts into deep space, and Gateway, the orbiting platform providing the home for astronauts to work and travel back and forth to the moon’s surface, and serving as the platform for deep space exploration. From critical systems on the ISS to enable astronauts to live and work in space; to performing advanced development for systems leading to deep space exploration; to being part of the foundation for Gateway.

We also partner with NASA at JSC, the only NASA center in the United States to curate all astromaterial samples returned from exploration missions, to perform curation services, orbital debris analysis, and basic research to further humankind’s understanding of the origins of our solar system.

We are currently in need of a Instrument/Electrical Tech to join our team. Do you have the following skills?

This is a JETS CBA position with Jacobs.

The Instrument/Electrical Tech will:

  • Plan,Layout, and install electrical and instrumentation wires to facility equipmentper engineering work orders and schematics.

  • Performelectrical and instrumentation buildup and installations in compliance withNational Electric Code and NASA standard guidelines.

  • Plan,Layout, assemble and install cable tray or conduit to facility equipment perengineering work orders.

  • Perform buildupof power distribution or data and control system panels per engineering workorders and schematics.

  • Performbuildup of cable assemblies from engineering work orders and electricalschematics.

  • Use basicmachine shop tools such as drill presses, band saws, sheet metal brakes, beltsanders, or shears to support facility or test stand buildups.

  • Disassembleand reassemble motors, generators, switchgear, transfer switches and othersimilar equipment during buildup or troubleshooting activities.

  • Demonstratecompetent use of basic electrical measurement devices (voltage, current, etc.)given an engineering work order and schematics.

  • Trace outexisting system wiring to verify or update facility drawings.

  • Troubleshootelectrical and instrumentation systems using schematics and manufacturer’sdocumentation.

  • Perform elevatedwork from ladders, scaffolding, raised platforms, man-lifts or other similarraised locations.

  • Performwork in confined spaces as required.

  • Supporttest duty stations as required.

  • Performother related tasks as required.


Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

  • General computer and typing skills.

  • General knowledge of the National Electrical Code.

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in the field or related area.


  • Formal National Electrical Code Training.

  • Electrical Trade School Training.

  • Electrical State License.

Physical Requirements:

Requires Constant:

  • Reaching for, handling,and manipulating objects and materials in all directions.

  • Coordinating eyes,hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment.

  • Standing.

  • Seeing and hearing withor without correction.

Requires Frequent:

  • Climbing andmaintaining ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level.

Requires Occasional:

  • Lifting up to 25 poundsfrom ground level, waist level and overhead.

  • Carrying up to 25pounds for 5 yards.

  • Bending, kneeling,crouching/squatting, and crawling from 1 to 30 minutes at a time.

Requires the ability to:

  • Following setprocedures and standards.

  • Applying basicmathematical skills.

  • Planning work andselecting proper tools.

  • Comparing andunderstanding differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures andobjects.

  • Picturing andevaluating solid objects from drawings or diagrams using standards that can bemeasured or checked.

  • Following oral andwritten directions, plans and blueprints.

  • Ability to recognizeand report safety hazards.

Work Environment:

Lab/industrial environment. Clean room/chamberenvironment. Office environment. Work may be performed at low and/or highelevations, work performed in confined areas. Exposure to various noise levels caused by power tools, machinery,equipment, etc. Other JSC test facility.

Equipment and Machines:

Operate push carts for transportinghardware.Use hand/powertools and test instruments for troubleshooting electrical systems andperforming repairs.Operate computer workstations and peripheral equipment insupport of administrative requirements.


Regular attendance in accordance withestablished work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normalschedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.

Other Essential Functions:

Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward aprofessional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork andcooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position andmust not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. Must be able to effectively interface withfacility test team members.
