Laser System Lab Engineer


NASA’s Mission Operations for the International Space Station is located at Johnson Space Center. On Jacobs’ JETS contract we provide engineering services to JSC. Come join us and be a vital part of operating the largest space station ever built. We’re looking for a Laser System Lab Engineer.


  • This position should not exceed more than 30 hours a week\

  • The selected applicant will:

  • Perform set up of radiation detector system.

  • Perform calibration of radiation detector system.

  • Perform set up and monitoring of lab software.

  • Work with customer to develop the supporting testing products and paperwork for decay testing.

  • Complete paperwork for hardware procurements needed for tests.

  • Work with technicians to design any necessary piece parts to facilitate execution of testing.

  • Perform other duties as required.


Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of fourteen (14) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and twelve (12) years of direct engineering experience, or a Ph.D. degree from an accredited engineering school and nine (9) years of direct engineering experience.

  • Possess knowledge of radiation detection systems.

  • Have good communication and organizational skills along with the ability to work in a team environment.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).


Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.

Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
