NASA’s Mission Operations for the International Space Station is located at Johnson Space Center. On Jacobs’ JETS contract we provide engineering services to JSC. Come join us and be a vital part of operating the largest space station ever built. We’re looking for a Manufacturing Operations Manager.

  • The selected candidate for this role will:

  • Support and promote management’s vision and direction.

  • Develop procedures, guidelines, and implement policies that will strengthen the facility infrastructure.

  • Understand and implement the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for all represented employees.

  • Ensure compliance for existing facility and/or laboratory processes/procedures and recommend/implement process improvements where appropriate.

  • Develop and implement a clear method to communicate project status of ongoing activities to customers and management.

  • Maintain customer-coordinated expected schedules along with prioritizing needs.

  • Manage facility infrastructure upgrade projects as assigned and contribute to identifying and acquiring modern technology.

  • Review all work requests coming into the facility and develop/provide accurate cost estimates to customers.

  • Develop and implement training plans and programs including mentoring programs.

  • Implement modern manufacturing methodology to ensure cost competitiveness.

  • Confirm, monitor and track internal and external on-time delivery.

  • Develop and/or post Key Performance Indicators to ensure quality, on-time performance and other progress metrics.

  • Develop and maintain an environment that promotes ownership at the lowest possible level; provide the authority to those to ensure success and insist on accountability.

  • Perform other duties as required.


Required Education/Experience/Skills:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of ten (10) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of eight (8) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. and a minimum of four (4) years of direct engineering experience.

  • Must have management experience in a manufacturing/production environment, including CNC programming.

  • Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in leading multi-disciplinary teams is required.

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skill.

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Project.


  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering with significant manufacturing coursework or Degree in Industrial Engineering preferred.

  • Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing is a plus.

  • Training in Kaizan and/or 5S is a plus.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).


Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
