We have an exciting opportunity for a Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Engineer to join the team!

This position serves as a senior-level nondestructive evaluation (NDE) and materials engineer. The candidate specializes in some of the NDE methods, such as x-ray inspection, ultrasonic testing, and eddy current testing including development, qualification of NDE procedures, and personnel qualification and certification. Work under this position supports multiple programs, including Commercial Crew Program (CCP).

The work includes:

  • Review of NDE procedures, NDE inspection reports, and NDE systems.

  • Analysis and resolution of NDE issues and completing actions towards resolution

  • Preparing and presenting reports on the NDE work activity in various program meetings.

  • Development of NDE requirements and procedures, implementation of NDE procedures, performing NDE lab inspections, preparation, and presentation of NDE inspection reports.

  • Providing support for maintaining NASA NDE system including NDE lab to provide state-of-art NDE operations.

  • Participating in all applicable technical forums including Engineering Review Boards (ERBs) and Integrated Product Team (IPT) meetings by providing information relevant to resolving issues/problems/concerns involving metallic and nonmetallic materials.

  • Providing vendors with recommendations for qualification and acceptance testing that will properly satisfy verification of requirements.

  • Representing NASA NDE/M&P engineering at government and industry materials & processing (M&P) and fracture control engineering forums including technical interchange meetings, working groups, and conferences as required.

  • The position requires occasional travel.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Here’s what you’ll need :

Requisition Qualifications:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a minimum of 2 - 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area

  • Experienced in NDE procedure assessments, NDE procedure development, and NDE problem resolution.

  • Knowledgeable in NDE systems including, industry standards, NDE procedure documents, and NDE audit requirements.

  • Familiar with desktop software applications, MS Office is required.

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to critically assess NDE processes and designs, and work in a multi-disciplinary team.

Requisition Preferences:

  • The candidate must have a minimum B.S. degree in science or engineering from an accredited university with 5-10 years of industry experience. Formal education in NDE is desirable but not necessary if professional NDE training/experience has been obtained. ASNT level 3 certification is favorable but not necessary.

  • Previous experience supporting NDE development, test, and evaluation activities for NASA and/or Aerospace projects.

  • Familiar with metallic and nonmetallic materials and their manufacturing processes, which include welding, additive manufacturing, composite fabrication, and repair.

  • Familiar with fracture control, materials compatibility, and design allowable for aerospace systems such as aircraft and spacecraft structures and their associated Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and systems.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
