NASA’s Mission Operations for the International Space Station is located at Johnson Space Center. On Jacobs’ JETS contract we provide engineering services to JSC. Come join us and be a vital part of operating the largest space station ever built.

We’re looking for a Project/Test Engineer to join our team as we develop the next-generation EVA spacesuit.

The selected candidate for this role will:

  • Perform project and test engineering functions for EVA spacesuit design, development, procurement, manufacture, test, and certification.

  • Develop essential documentation for the assigned subsystem including assembly procedures, test plans, test procedures, and any additional operations-related products.

  • Design tests and test rigs, identifying instrumentation and data acquisition systems.

  • Coordinate test activities and requirements with NASA test facilities.

  • Setup and execute tests and prepare summary reports documenting test results.

  • Provide direction to support organizations during all phases of hardware requirements development, design, manufacturing, testing, and certification.

  • Plan and execute hardware troubleshooting to investigate mechanical and electrical failures within flight hardware, development test articles, or test support hardware.

  • Select and apply engineering techniques and procedures to analyze and evaluate specific problems, data, or other features of the work which are broad in scope and complexity.

  • Perform job functions based on pre-established guidelines or instructions.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of five (5) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of four (4) years of direct engineering experience, or a Ph.D. and zero (0) years of direct engineering experience.

  • Experience as a project engineer or test engineer.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines.

  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field, such as mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, and component level and system level testing.

Preferences:

  • Familiarity with electro-mechanical hardware elements (pumps, relief valves, control valves, heating elements, water quality instrumentation, temperature/pressure sensors, etc), NI data acquisition systems, and LabView. LabView programming is a plus.

  • Experience with spacesuits or life support systems test and development.

  • Familiarity with JSC organizations, processes, and procedures.

  • Familiarity with the Engineering Life Cycle.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
