We are looking for a Pyrotechnic Engineer to join our team. Do you have the following skills?
This is a part-time temporary role not to exceed 9 months.
The Pyrotechnic Engineer will:
Apply extensive job practices, techniques, standards, principles, theories, and concepts.
Support requirements development, design reviews, test and verification plans and other technical reviews of NASA pyrotechnic systems.
Perform oversight function and advise NASA employees and contractors responsible for development of pyro systems designs for NASA.
Perform root cause analysis.
Support problem resolution and provide recommendations for resolving technical issues.
Provide insight and advice on design efficiency.
Maintain a professional relationship with the NASA customer and other NASA support contractors.
Perform other duties as required.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school.
Knowledge of pyro systems including the use of propellants, actuators, and their applications.
Knowledge of pyro systems including the use of explosives, frangible nuts and bolts, and their applications.
Knowledge of reefing line cutters, initiators, and detonators (including challenges of each).
Knowledge of explosives energy transfer.
Understanding of the tradeoffs of energy release.
Experience with the design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of aerospace hardware.
Ability to perform tasks within a team environment.
Able to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision.
BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
Knowledge of root cause analysis techniques.
Working knowledge of NASA, and JSC standard practices and requirements including safety, fault tolerance, and unique disciplines.

Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
Equipment and Machines
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
