We are looking for a Section Manager to join our team with GeoControl Systems, Inc. , a JETS teammate company. Do you have the following skills?

As a ­­­­­­­­­­Section Manager – Software Engineering you will:

  • Report directly to the Spacecraft Analysis, Software, & Services Group Manager. This position is responsible for the direct management of software engineers with widely varying skill sets supporting multiple NASA JSC Engineering divisions (ER, EC, EV, and EA).

  • Provide guidance and oversight of software engineering products and services and the development of computer hardware and software requirements.

  • Maintain familiarity with and provide guidance on NASA software engineering requirements and work instructions.

  • Create, manage, and revise task orders and projects.

  • Effectively manage a matrix organization to staff projects across multiple NASA divisions and departments.

  • Perform recruiting activities to bring personnel with required skills and expertise on contract.

  • Manage, review, and report on all aspects of performance (technical, cost, schedule, risk) for projects managed by or staffed by the section.

  • Manage and encourage personnel performance and growth.

  • Coordinate issues across multiple organizations which could include source limitations, technical challenges, process breakdowns, etc.

  • Establish a framework and oversight for technical correctness on all work performed by section.

  • Provide guidance in the development of project proposals and cost estimates.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  • BS degree in a computer or system science discipline from an accredited college or university and fourteen (14) years of progressive, relevant experience, or an MS degree in a computer or system science discipline and twelve (12) years of progressive experience, or a Ph.D. degree in a computer or system discipline and seven (7) years of progressive experience. Require demonstrated and recognized technical expertise in specialty areas of engineering system design and analysis.

  • Previous software engineering experience for high criticality software.

  • Previous software project management experience (technical, cost, and schedule performance; risk management).

  • Experience with project management tools such as Microsoft Project

  • Experience managing a team of up to 40 contracts and subcontract personnel.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a history of effectively interacting with senior managers at all levels.

  • Must be proactive, responsive, and show great initiative.

  • Experience in developing schedules, budgets, and project plans.

Preferences:

  • Significant direct project development experience with NASA.

  • Experience negotiating customer and stakeholder requirements and managing customer expectations.

  • Experience with task order contracts.

  • Experience with avionics systems development efforts.

  • Experience across the full SDLC (Software Development Life Cycles)

  • Familiarity with:

  • NPR 7120.10A Technical Standards for NASA Programs and Projects

  • NPR 7123.1B NASA Systems Engineering Processes and Requirements

  • NPR 7150.2C NASA Software Engineering Requirements

  • NASA JSC EA Work Instruction 025 GFE Flight Project Software and Firmware Development

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with the established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust the schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
