The United States is developing the first vehicle to take humans into deep space – the Orion spacecraft. On the Jacobs JETS contract, we provide services to NASA’s Johnson Space Center that includes maintenance and operation of simulation labs for the Orion spacecraft.

We're looking for a Spacecraft Simulation Lab Administrator.

The selected candidate for this role will:

  • Provide Linux/Unix system administration, communication, user authentication and storage design, Server maintenance and backup.

  • Set up, configure, and maintain spacecraft flight software development tools.

  • Maintain system security.

  • Maintain hardware and software procurement and license management.

  • Maintain strong customer relationships through highly effective communication skills, timely response to customer issues, and customer notifications.

  • Provide regular lab operations status reports and represent the lab at organizational meetings.

  • Work in a dynamic, rapidly changing engineering environment with demanding customers on a compressed schedule.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Typically has a BS degree in a computer or system science discipline from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five (5) years of progressive, relevant experience, or an MS degree in a computer or system science and a minimum of four (4) years of progressive experience, or Ph.D. degree in a computer of system science discipline.

  • Recent lab operations experience.

  • Experience developing and maintaining a simulation lab in the following specialty areas:

  • Linux/Unix System Administration

  • Firewall maintenance and administration

  • System and software configuration management

  • System tuning and performance analysis

  • Automation of system maintenance and reporting

  • System requirements analysis

  • Network analysis, configuration and administration

  • Automation of system maintenance and reporting via scripting

  • Security planning, implementation, and maintenance

  • Software license management

  • Hardware and software procurement

  • Hardware and software integration

  • Customer Relations

Strong Preferences:

  • JSC network familiarity.

  • LDAP user authentication mechanisms familiarity.

Preferences:

  • Orion spacecraft software development tool chain familiarity:

  • Perforce version control tool

  • Orion SOCRRATES and ANTARES simulations

  • Simics simulation environment

  • OS/Comet satellite telemetry and commanding system

  • Experience with:

  • Installation, maintenance and backup of Oracle databases

  • JBoss installation and maintenance

  • Data acquisition and processing

  • Marketing and salesmanship experience a plus.

  • NASA property control processes - NASA Form 1602, NASA Equipment Management System (NEMS) Transaction Document, DD Form 1149, Requisition and Invoice/Shipping Document, and JSC Form 290 Shipping Document.

  • Familiar with Government software procurement requirements and processes:

  • NASA Solutions for Enterprise-Wide Procurement (SEWP) system

  • Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act compliance

  • Compliance with Public Law 113-6, the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2013 (Division B, Title V, Section 516)

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
