Jacobs Transportation Engineering Intern (Traffic) – Summer 2025 in Houston, Texas

By joining our team, you’ll be a key member of our Traffic Engineering group in the San Antonio, Austin, or Houston, TX offices. You’ll work on a variety of transportation and traffic engineering projects related to traffic operations, safety analysis, corridor studies, traffic simulation modeling, signal timing & operations, and traffic design (signals, signs, pavement markings, illumination, ITS, etc.). Work will be performed utilizing Big Data, with traffic engineering software including SYNCHRO, Vissim, Highway Capacity Software (HCS) as well as traffic design software like OpenRoads and SignCAD.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform traffic analysis tasks from data collection, reporting analysis results, and writing technical reports.

  • Perform civil design calculations, sketches, drawings, technical comparisons and similar technical work as required by assignments.

  • Research design options and documents findings for project engineers and/or project managers.

  • Develop solutions to complex problems that require a high degree of innovation and ingenuity.

  • Assist with duties assigned by project engineers and/or project managers.

  • Maintain effective communication with project team members and with clients.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in design software (such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Openroads, etc.), traffic simulation software like Synchro, Vissim, and other office production software.

  • In pursuit of a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in an accredited program with an emphasis in transportation

  • Interest in Traffic

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • A previous internship related to your field of study

  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management within Jacobs

  • Self-driven time management and organizational skills
