JSEG CCP Senior Vehicle Propulsion Systems Engineer (AER0000BV)
This position is for a Vehicle Propulsion Systems Engineer who will work in a highly integrated team performing technical and integration activities to support Commercial Crew Program (CCP) main propulsion systems and vehicles.
Primary duties for the Propulsion Systems Engineer would include:
1.Attend technical interchange, project planning, design review and other appropriate meetings to maintain a current knowledge base of design, requirements, issues, action items, and resolution activities. Identify issues, pursue resolutions, and provide supporting analyses. Complete assigned action items. Develop requirements and implement risk management processes.
2.Translate higher level requirements into lower level functional requirements and design options. Conduct trade studies/ assessments to determine the optimal design solutions.
3.Collect data and perform assessments on the system to continually assess compliance against requirements and integration across Elements.
4.Lead relevant trade teams. Identify and pursue resolution of issues.
5.Identify and document customer objectives and product requirements.
6.Provide integration insight, evaluation and review milestone review planning, document review and Review Item Discrepancy (RID) disposition at the Program and Element level.
7.Evaluate Change Requests for impacts to propulsion Elements and vehicle integration.
8.Lead relevant verification and validation planning for propulsion components, subsystems and integrated vehicle.
9.Lead appropriate Program-to-Program and Element-to-Program propulsion integration meetings and interface change evaluations.
10.Document and deliver results with recommendations.
11.Assess propulsion system risks and issues associated with commercial crew launch vehicles.
12.Perform analysis and provide systems engineering skills to support Commercial Crew Main Propulsion Systems engineering and integration.
13.Develop requirements, models, and analysis tools.
14.Provide analytical documentation such as trade studies, hazards assessments, fault tolerance designs, certifications for flight, launch vehicle data reviews.
15.Other duties as assigned.

In-depth experience with launch vehicle stage operation, liquid engine operation, launch vehicle design and interfaces,system design, and system engineering and integration is required. Design and development experience and/or insight into propulsion systems and associated subsystems of the overall propulsion system architectural development and integration for Industry launch vehicle systems is mandatory. Experience relevant to the Commercial Crew Program is desired.
Experience with performing systems analysis on propulsion designs.
Experience with hot fire testing and launch operations in the areas listed above is desired.
Experience with fluids math modeling software of propulsion systems is desired.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Power-Point, Excel, and Word is required.
Education requirements are a degree from an ABET accredited institution in Aerospace Engineering or related field, either a Ph.D. with at least 12 years’ experience, a Masters with at least 15 years’ experience, or a BS with at least 20 years’ experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Experience with Main Propulsion Systems (MPS) or engine integration with vehicle / subsystem emulation or software requirements definition desirable.
Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%).
Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%).
Equipment and Machines
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
